Description
Yup, it's the clay golem again ^_^; I had a chance to update him a little, tweak his textures and add a little more geometry detail, particularly to the face. I kinda like his expression ^_^Anyway, these were two frames from a 5 second spin-round animation. I particularly liked the side shot cause I just dig that shape. Ehehe, he has such bad posture.
modelled in 3DS MAX 5.1

You know, golems were originally exclusively made of clay

3DS MAX is commercial 3D modelling and animation software used a lot in the video games and film industry. The full licence is very expensive (several thousand dollars), I'm currently using the student version.

good modelling...possibly a little hard edged in some places for clay...also you might want to change the specularity a little so he's not quite so shiny...maybe adjust his bump mappign to add a little porousness to go on top of the cellular map you have there...Also try going for a skylight appearance to give it more of a radiosity look instead of direct lighting...Very good concept though. Whats he for?

Well his texture was pretty much thrown on to compliment the shape of the mesh. I didn't even decide he was clay until someone suggested it in an IM, before that he was just a creature. The cellular is kind of cheap, but gave him some nice subtle detail, especially considering he's a symmetrical mesh. If I was devoting more time to him, I'd probably unwrap him, and paint on some more surface colouring and bump
I was just messing around with modelling a scribble in my sketchbook, he wasn't for anything, although these are stills from a simple rotating animation (hence the lack of processor intensive lighting solutions)

o_O! *hides* Heck, I wouldn't want to have him 'sliding' after me... I really like how you have done his face. not too detailed, but still rather creapy looking. Love his posture and the way you've done his spine shape. Gorgeous work.

O_o
wow... what can i say? HE ROCKS!!
The good thing of two poses is that you get a good idea of his 3d figure, and both pics are very nice ( the side one is indeed beaautiful, but i like the 3/4 one too very much) but this presentation gives it such a.. technical? ... feeling. Kinda practical... dunno. He should be the centre of a huge portrait!

Haha, no it's way cool. Now I want to get my PC upgraded so I can get my 3D rendering program working. -_-;;

Whoo, you really improved it! The texture really helps give it a more wet-earthy look and the detailing is fantastic. The huge, heavy hands look as if they're going to drop off of the body any minute ^.~ *bloop bloop*

I still love his arms and spine, I'm just worried that he won't be able to move fast if he needs to. I'm not sure why a clay golem would need to move fast however...

He's just gonna take it niiiice and eeaaaas-eh. For moving along the ground I really had this kind of ripple/contraction idea in mind where he just kind of slides along. Not exactly snail speed, but not racing along either
But yeah, probably not too dexterous ^_^;
