Description Ever since Minecraft started to become popular I've wanted to make my own Minecraft Rubik's cube. However at that point I hadn't really played the game so I had little motivation to actually do it, especially as I had to pick only 6 blocks to use.

About 2 weeks ago Kyramy showed me the basics and I've been playing ever since. It gave me the prompt to get around to making it and helped me decide which pieces to use.

I'd seen someone else do the grass/soil edge so thought I'd include the snow/soil one too. I then couldn't decide which of the ores to use (especially as 9 diamond pieces would be so rare) so decided to include a range of them.

Size: 5.5cm3
Made: December 2011
Base cube purchased from: Discovery Store
Notes: Showcases 13 different blocks
(grass, soil, soil-grass, soil-snow, snow, planks, lava, cobblestone, iron, coal, gold, redstone and diamond)

I simply Googled the textures I wanted to use and resized them to match the size I needed the stickers.

I just printed the required number of textures onto a plain piece of paper and added a layer of sellotape on top of each image to give it some protection. Then I just cut it out, trying to be as neat as possible.

Since I just used paper, I glued them on to the blank cube using a gluestick. Obviously if you print onto images onto sticker paper, you can just peel off the backs and stick them on.

Not too hard to make ¬.¬ Just need a printer, some sticky tape (for sticker protection), scissors, glue and a spare cube

I got a Rubik's cube and peeled the old stickers off. I then got the textures from the game, blew up the ones I wanted to the correct size then printed them off. I covered the printed images with a layer of tape to protect them, then cut them out and stuck them on. Took about 2-3 hours.

Peppermint334 In reply to Synfull [2012-05-31 22:47:27 +0000 UTC]

2x2, a key-chain 2x2, the original 3x3, an all-white 3x3 cube (which my father gave me for April's Fool – not solved yet) and a 5x5.

How do you actually make those? Print those thingies to some sticker paper or something?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Synfull In reply to Czar-the-Dragon [2011-12-23 12:35:22 +0000 UTC]

Print it off on normal paper, cover it in sellotape to add a protective layer, cut them out and glue them on

Czar-the-Dragon In reply to Synfull [2011-12-24 11:05:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh. Seems easy enough. Might try making myself Super Mario -related one. Like, ?-blocks 'n stuff. Do you get your cubes from some local store or from some internet shop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Synfull In reply to Czar-the-Dragon [2011-12-24 17:18:22 +0000 UTC]

Personally i buy them from a shop called the discovery store - they are selling cubes which should be about £6 at only £3 to try and get rid of stock. So the cubes i use aren't amazing at turning, but wont break. You can get cubes online quite easily, but price and quality will vary a little. You don't want like £1 cubes that will fall to bits 2 days after spending hours on a cube design, but equally don't pay the high prices for a competition standard cube.

My friend has lots o' cubes, basic and also some special ones. (and I have no freakin' idea how to solve 'em. ) I might ask him where he buys 'em. The special ones are pretty pricey, by the way. If I remember correctly, one of them was over 40€.
