Cory Knight wasn't aware of the happenings in Ivywood. All he knew was that he was on his way home, after a several month-long mission he'd rather stop thinking about. Home to his dinky apartment, where his poor excuse of a bed was better then anything he had slept on while gone. The sky had grown dark, but he was so close to the edge of town, he decided to trek it out. With no one but some of his pokemon, the forest was its usual quiet. Though after a while, Cory considered perhaps it was too quiet. Where was the wild Hoothoot's coos? The Kricketot's chittering clicks? Even the forest's Caterpie and Weedle were no where to be heard. Equipping his Fine Styler, mostly for comfort's sake, Cory warily scanned the surroundings."Stay close," He warned his Porygon, Frogadier and... where was his Ledyba? "Akiiki?" He called out, slightly annoyed but mostly worried for his baby pokemon. The ominous silence was his only answer, and for a heartbeat, Cory began to fear the worst. "AKIIKI?!" He called out louder, more desperate. The atmosphere around him was growing heavy and dark, shooting the ranger's anxiety to record levels. Something was definitely wrong. Finally, Cory barely made out a familiar squeak, straight ahead of him in the brush. For one moment, Cory thought he could feel relieved. But as he stepped into the forest's clearing, he knew no such luxury could be had. Was it a pokemon? Was it a hallucination? The bellowing form of pitch black smoke was unlike anything he had ever seen. Most alarming of all was its warm, glowing, steady stare. It sent chills down his spine. But even more terrifying was what was in front of the phenomenon, his baby Ledya trembling uncontrollably. For a moment he was paralyzed, his mind drawing a blank on what to do. Then he watched as the smoke's edging curls began to surround his frightened pokemon, as if hungerly consuming prey. Launching forward, the ranger's training took over every fiber of his being, launching his Fine Styler's stylus at the ominous thing. His wits quickly coming about him, he swiftly ripped his phone from his pocket, snapping a photo of the creature. Whatever this thing was, he needed to let ranger union know. Although the stylus was never meant for the purpose of attacking, it's path cut clear through the smoke. The figure hardly seemed effected, mending the gap with its plumes of smoke. But Cory wasn't trying to attack it. As the figure reformed, the ranger dove forward, swiping up his Ledyba and ran. Confirming his Porygon and Frogadier where right behind him, his run quickly paced into a full out sprint. His lungs and muscles burned, but he couldn't risk slowing down. He wasn't far now, the town's street lights seen just a mile away. He could make it. He was going to make it.
