Description
#106Edit: Cropped to originally planned composition.
Been obsessing over this skate mech concept the last few weeks. Just to put it out there, it's inspired by ...skaters. Holy shit.
"Nadom" drones are nowhere near as versatile as their robust "Akula" cousins but they are excellent in the urban fast response role they were designed for. The unique configuration of the Nadom drone allows it to leap over obstacles and navigate pedestrian-heavy areas that pose significant challenge to its URSYN and Commonwealth contemporaries. Nadom drones are equipped with two manipulator arms which are normally oriented backwards to assist in balancing during high speed maneuvers. In addition, drones are equipped with two multipurpose comm/probe beams mounted on gimbals.

Lost about 6 hours of work because I forgot to save. Again. DURRRRRR don't be an idiot like me

Very awesome. The blurred edges really add to the intensity of the scene.

Drone 1: derp derp lets kill people
Drone 2: ya its fun
The blur effect is making my head spin, something it was probably intended to do

Wow, the sense of motion is CRAZY!
Code Geass also has mechs with skates: [link] (skip to 7:20). But this one is far more realistic and hard-sci fi in terms of mech design.

Skate mech is great! Such a cool idea. Mech's are just an awesome idea in general, and I think the wheels make it that much more awesome! Much faster and agile than normal walking mechs. Great concept work!

Nice concept and really well envisioned. As for the 6 hours work lost, dont worry you are not alone. I do that with pretty much every image i do! (particularly as Gimp crashes repeatedly with anything bigger 4000p/sq running) I'm glad you picked yourself up and dusted off after your loss, cos the final image is great

This looks uber-awesome with a big portion of icecream on top. But I think these mechs will fall in crowds, because their wheels get screwed. There should be a possibility for the mech to stop rapidly and stand still so they can use their whole firing potential.
Oh, and sometimes my PS crashes as well, when I'm working with large scaled pictures and smudge them.. but why didn't you save after half an hour or so?

teehee... dude, with all the parkouring around thats happening in movies these days, id so watch out for some hollywood bigwig stealing your idea. skating mechs, speeding around town, parkouring over obstacles... that would actually be rad, though

While I don't save too often either, my computer has been nice too me, doesn't crash. Over the last year I've never lost more than 45mins of work at a time.
As for all the comments about clsoing without saving, that's just pure "WTF are you thinking" stuff, that's never happened to me.

If PS blows up, does that still count as a computer crash? XD

Lawl, I mean any kind of crashing. The last time PS dumped on me it was cause by my livestream app.
Which PS and which OS do you have? I'm on CS4 and vista, smooth sailing.
And before I forget again, kewl painting bro

CS4 on win7... PS seems to blow up if I try to use variations on a file past like 1.8gigs or something :\ I ended up just compressing all layers and working it in a new PSD. Otherwise it's fine. It might be a memory thing, hrm.

Haha, yea 1.8gigs might be your problem. I work very light on layers, not the best for keeping things organized, but it keeps the file sizes down.

Ah finally an action piece depicting them... dare I say skaters AND a hint of mgs4 gekkos?!
Mwa ha ha, you're no idiot compared to me... I once worked on a piece which I initially never saved.. and over the course of time I forgot about that... then the PC suddenly shut itself off, and it was all in vain...

I have to say the gekko comparison is sort of a stretch i have to say seeing as besides the shape overall being a bi-pod with a top part they are very different from one another in all other aspects.

Ragaru In reply to Shydrow [2010-11-29 13:34:41 +0000 UTC]
Well it isn't a direct comparison to the gekkos, only my associations which in my eyes hint of them.
But it's not only the similarities of being bi-pedal, there's the proportions of the legs and head base, the manipulator arms, the fact it's a mechanical drone, front mounted weaponry and approximate size...

Shydrow In reply to Ragaru [2010-11-29 13:53:39 +0000 UTC]
Unless where going really abstract here i have to say the only comparison you can really make is that they have the same overall shape to one another till we hit the head when they change drastically. The only weapon placed in a similar area is that side cannon. Also the gekko has not front gun to it like this. Again besides for shape overall and where the parts go [like the cannon on the side and legs and head] They aren't very similar. I'm looking at the two side by side right now and again besides for shape and if you wanna stretch it the side cannon the two are very different and have very little in common.
The reason i am pointing this out cause A) There not very similar unless at first glance. B)Sorta seems like your telling the person off regardless of compliments your still saying your work looks like what or whoever and thus takes away from the image. C) Your only glancing at the work. [this might be wrong but it is really hard to say with the way you keep comparing the two. Either that or you need to look at the gekko again cause you ignored it's design]

I believe you're misunderstanding my point...
Firstly, I said "and a hint of mgs4 gekkos!?" In which I mean Tabnir's design is built in a way that reminds me of the gekkos.
These features which I find similar are not only those displayed by it's visual appearance, but also a matter of concept.
They are both drones, they both have manipulator arms, however the gekko's is hidden internally, so is it's front mounted machine gun which is located in it's very front section.
Both designs are constructed with their legs in a reverse weight balancing position, making them balancing their weight by the rear of their "heads"(however Tabnir's design using the manipulator arms as balance support extensions, makes his design more unique in the ways of balancing during acceleration)
These are specific features that I find to be hinting of a Gekko... and as I initially stated it's what reminds me of the gekkos.
I never mentioned anything about these being identical or very similar, as you so boldly claim in your points.
I merely express the features which in my eyes define what I find to be common features of concept regarding this design.
I hope you do understand this.
Finally, your point B didn't make much sense to me (sorry if I'm misunderstanding your statement), but if you're trying to say I'm not respecting Tabnir's art and visions, you are most certainly terribly mistaken...

No B was how i saw it and how someone else might see it. I understand now, Sorry if i seemed rude i was but that was only cause i'm sick of hearing people compare things to each other when they have nothing better to say. You just happen to get caught in the midst of my anger.

Ha ha no problem my friend
And I do understand what you mean about people keep on comparing original concepts of artist to more commonly know designs... I've experienced such myself... annoying indeed.
