The M7 Service rifle is the first particle burst rifle developed by the Concordia Ordnance Factory. A prototype version of this weapon was submitted to the UFSA "Particle Rifle Program" and lost in the early stages against the SMI PBR-1 simply because COF could not produce enough rifles for the large scale troop trails, in the end the PBR-1 rifle didn't meet the requirements which led to the development and ultimate large scale adoption of the Morningstar series.

A side effect of these trails was the adoption adoption of the SMI and Liberty Arsenal designed 7x44mm PBCL cartridge as the M-31 cartridge by some special forces and marine units who wanted to acquire the PBR-1 at first but ultimately chose the M7, primarily because COF was able to offer them a prototype light machine gun version.

The M7 Service rifle is light for an early particle burst rifle, quite compact and has an acceptable effective range that is however significantly lower than that of a standard issue 6.5mm CT infantry rifle. It does suffer practically no "projectile drop", but is of course heaviliy impacted by a loss of cehesion of the particle burst itself over long distances or in particulary dense atmospheres. Most units who adopted the weapon are specialized in urban combat or boarding actions where the significantly lower effective range isn't much of an issue.

The rifle's firing mechanism is based on superconductor cartridges that are filled with a special kind of solid fuel. The cartridges are chambered like normal rounds in an automatic rifle . When the trigger is pulled, the cartridge is vaporized, injected into the barrel and accelerated.

The bolt is operated by gas pressure and works the same way as on a regular firearm, the ejection port serves as a main heat sink and a way to eject a faulty cartridge or to safely unload the weapon.

If the weapon is fired weak sided for extended periods of time, the heat exhaust from the ejection port might significantly impact the shooters accuracy and comfort, the rifle would however shut down from overheating long before the exhaust could seriously burn the shooter's face.
