Description
A friend pointed out to me the weird fandom reception of "The Hunger Games" by a crowd that was a bit too fixated on Twilight. So during our last roleplaying session, I had the time to relieve my hurting head by drawing these scribbles.
... but really, I wish these books got more attention, unavoidable fandom drama or not.

OMG, I LOVE this! I'm still giggling. I gotta link to this; it's too good not to share. Yes, Night is sparkly and distant. Should I make him a vampire too?
Tac, and everyone, you are wonderful!

Ah, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! ^^ Thank you! And sure, everything needs vampires today. Being immortal and everything, he might just be around long enough to pass it on when the first hominids appear on the scene, thus becoming Edward's great-great-great-grandfather.

Reminds me I should get around to buying the rest of the series after only going through the first two so far.
How did the Hunger Games get misinterpreted that badly? I’ve only seen the movie, but that was one heck of a creepy story.

I've read the books, but only recently, and I haven't had much contact with the 'fandom'. The two later books put a lot of focus on what violence and war can do to people, in a pretty realistic, unglorified way. It becomes a study in character development. Forget that, let's make it a sugary love story instead, split into teams, create lots of happy sparkly fanwork and bitch at each other. XD At least that's what I've heared and what friends confirmed for me.

I don't think these series will be picked up by Twilight freaks, but I do expect a rise in what points 1 and 4 concern at least -.-

Tacimur In reply to Leorgathar [2012-07-07 09:08:42 +0000 UTC]
^^ I don't really think it will, either. But I've noticed that the books are often mentioned in one breath with "Warriors" lately. And in Warriors, you simply have the good and the bad, it's not very thought-provoking while surely fun to read. I just think that young readers might have problems to tackle the Named books any other way than what they know. Just like the Twilight readers had problems comprehending THG. But that's just specualtion on my part supported by a general observance of fandoms. ^^

Actually not. It's always seemed to me to have more of a classic science fiction approach. Take a premise and see where it goes and what problems crop up along the way.

Probably some leftovers from The Lion King or Warriors fandoms might drift over into the Named fandom eventually.
Love the comic. Just curious, the Author wrote 2 stand-alone books about big cats called "Tomorrow's Sphinx", and "the Jaguar Princess". Have you read those?

Oh man, I've seen that happen with Ginga-series. It wasn't pretty, and worse that it happened twice. First with the countries that had it, and once the anime(s) went viral, rest of the world.

Tacimur In reply to Ana-Mizuki [2012-07-06 18:44:03 +0000 UTC]
I haven't reach particularly much Ginga fanfics, but the style of the series allowed for pretty colorful designs and dramatic characters. Share your pain, sister, what did they do?

Ana-Mizuki In reply to Tacimur [2012-07-06 19:07:26 +0000 UTC]
First of all, we here in the north started a HUGE canine webcomics trend, far before BBA. There were thousands of them, some made by paint, and one in particular had gigantic sheaths for the male characters and a bad guy taken off Edward scissorhands, with Iron's DNA in him XD
Then there was fighting over pairings, or rather, if there could be any pairings considering there were more male chars than female ones. So, naturally as the fans grew older, certain new ideas entered their minds. And some reacted badly to the implications that some characters were gay.
Now that the world knows about the series, ah, I've seen a repeat of those simpler times of my childhood, execpt coming from outside the country XD

Hehe. XD Wow, and I hadn't even known about the series until ca. four years ago. But things never seem to change. Different fandom, same fans. xD

Yeah, seeing all that BBA inspired stuff was sorta weird.
In any case, The Named are really cool. Aside from MLP:FiM, pretty much the first series where non-bipedal main characters with culture make sense.
