Description
After getting the set 7325 Cursed Cobra Statue for half price, I naturally decided that the snake in it simply wasn't big enough, and neither was the obelisk. So, managing to catch it on sale for half price at a totally different store from the first one, I got a second one, and put them together. With the addition of every tan and gold brick I have, I give you, the Obelisk of Wadjet. One that note, does anyone wonder why the symbol for Paramedics/EMTs is a serpent coiled around a staff?

Nice idea
To answer your question the serpent and staff, or Aesclepius wand, originates from ancient Greece and was a symbol of Aesclepius, the god of healing. The significance of the snake is thought to come from the use of snake venom in certain types of medicine.
The image of a snake rising up a rod or tree appears elsewhere however as a representation of matter transcending nature and transforming into spirit on attaining enlightenment.

Yeah. I've always ascribed it more to the story of Moses, when he cast a bronze serpent coiled around a staff for the purpose of healing the Israelite victims of snake bites. (Numbers 21:6-9) It's essentially the same idea, but Moses came before Greek religion.
