I find with Breed or animal commissions I am more apt to put a few extra hours into the finished project, which was this case with this particular piece. I love drawing different types of dogs because it allows me to test my abilities as well as learn about said breed. Here we have a Nova Scotia Duck-Tolling Retriever in action I was tempted to draw some type of water activity but Delf asked that I make it fun and bouncy...(plus I cannot create a believeable water affect even if my life depended on it!)
Anywho, I used the same mind set as my "Best of Breed" submission -going for a realistic feel but with caricature qualities. I spent a few hours on the fur detail (off and on) -studying actual Toller photos and what not. In the end I hope this will make its owner happy and also become a valued file of my portfolio.
