Beeeeautiful! Yeah like the others said, those patterns and designs in her kimono look super intricate and difficult to render, but you nailed it

wow the details really stand out! amazing work. if i may ask, is it a pain to layer up those patterns?

It was actually fun.. But it was painfully slow and time consuming...

Beautiful! There's just one thing I want to point out...

I japan, there is a rule that when you wear a kimono, if the kimono is full of dekoration or patterns the "belt" that is around the waist should be plain. And also the other way around. If the belt is full of patterns, the kimono should be plain ^^

And I dont think this drawing follows this pretty well xD But it's still beautifull

Takumy In reply to KitsuneMuffin [2013-01-04 17:55:03 +0000 UTC]

Rules? lol .. well yeah if you go for formal ware then yes... but this is just for beauty .. and here is the reference i used for the kimono [link] I think she is not following japan's rule even dough she is japanese 0__o"

KitsuneMuffin In reply to Takumy [2013-01-04 18:50:54 +0000 UTC]

LOL no she really isnt o.o
But I would really call that a "real" kimono xD There are many "kimono"-dresses, that look like kimonos but they aren't, so maybe it's one of them? xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Takumy In reply to KitsuneMuffin [2013-01-04 19:03:00 +0000 UTC]

that is a furisode what she is wearing... is suppose to have more detail ( for single ladies kimono) .. and the uchikake (wedding kimono)are the ones that look all crazy full with patterns everywhere. of course there are the regular yukata simple for summer occasions .. o__0" ... and the formal Kimono... So many of them ... I usually like the uchikake and the furisodes cause they are heavy in details .. Plus the Obi for me most be really heavy too when wearing any of those two.. i think it all depends on taste. ^_^

KitsuneMuffin In reply to Takumy [2013-01-04 19:27:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah! I thought of that to, that the dress might have been a "other style" of a kimono xD Just didn't know the name of the style hehe ; v ;
But I just though, that the girl on the picture was on a new years festival, and on thoose occasions you wear a yukata/kimono, and I'm very sure that THOOSE have rules XD

i guess they would .. but since my drawing is a Yokai (demon) Royalty ... They all need to be fancy ^__^

How do you do patterns like that? o.0

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Takumy In reply to Ashe-the-Artist [2013-01-04 16:44:07 +0000 UTC]

I usually look for real kimono pictures and use it as reference, then i make them in adobe illustrator and save them as vector files so i can use them latter. Well there are some very difficult ones that i paid for a long time ago in vector Yunki.

Ashe-the-Artist In reply to Takumy [2013-01-04 17:44:37 +0000 UTC]

Oooooh, thank you. :3
I really need to look into illustrator, is it pretty easy to use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Takumy In reply to Ashe-the-Artist [2013-01-04 17:57:57 +0000 UTC]

o____o" HELL NO!! ... lol ... That is why im soo thankful for Kaizer for showing me that Paint tool Sai existed .. lol ... Dont get me wrong Adobe Illustrator is a very good program but you dont color like you do with brushes in photoshop or sai. is all shapes upon shapes and layers of more shapes .. all fallowed by vector points .. it is very boring you dont enjoy coloring at all but the end result is fantastic though!
