Description
Zinx, as of yet, has not disclosed to me their Outsider name, so... a Basilisk Monitor it will be til I can get him to tell me otherwise.Anyhoo, most of the info is up there.... and readable to. Surprised? I am. A few months of living out 'ere, and I can still 'member
how to write. I've been pretty interested in these Basilisks ever since one decided to leave his pod and stick with me... been studying
'em ever since... when no one's watchin'. A scrapper like me, sittin' down and sketchin' out a picture for hours on end? Pfft, I'd never
hear the end of it. Oh... wait... Erk, I did leave out some info...
Species Name: Basilisk Monitor
Age Range: Ain' got a clue... maybe up to 50 yrs, maybe up to 100...
Size: Males, over 50 ft long as adults... may reach 60-65... maybe a bit over; females; 60 and up... I don't think I've seen as big as they can get yet...
Diet: Omnivore
Strengths:
- Speed (boy, are they fast)
- Weaponry (a hit from a male's tail can easily break a whole bunch of somebodies in half)
- Armor (I don't think there's anything that has teeth strong enough to punch through an adult's hide)
- Intelligence (It's obvious they can easily understand English... I'm certainly without a doubt that they're as sentient as I am)
Weaknesses:
- Their young (yeah.. as strong as they are as adults, their young are actually very helpless.... if they're not guarded or well taken care of, they don't survive long)
- Attachment (this is a sad one too; if one's mate dies, 9 times out of ten so will they... quite a few healthy adults die from this)
- Heat and Cold (though they are much more hardy that your average Earth lizard, the extreme temperatures will still do 'em in)
- Stubbornness + other (with any intelligent creature, stubbornness is a constant... and have you ever tried to ride these things? Takes a bit of gettin' used to)
Colors:
- Males; browns, tans... some greys, a little white... neutral tones.
- Females; greens, blues, a few bright reds... jewel tones.
Purpose:
They are the balance to the Berga. These eat the Berga's young before they get to big and take over... like the wolf is the balance to
the deer..... only here the deer is a huge ugly 20 ft toad-like thing with an evil unending appetite and a malicious personality to match....
like the one that almost ate me. Erg, I hate those things.
There.... now I got it all. Wait a sec.... Ooops... got's ta go. My turn to help catch somethin' for dinner. Catch ya later.

Eeeeh, it's a special type of alien creature in the roleplay world of #Outsider-Insider .... I don't know if they can 'leave' that world so to speak... I could ask? :3

Eh, it's not a big deal if it's a no. I thought it might be cool to just draw one, maybe making something out of it. I'm working on lizards and their talons mainly, but I could find another subject, haha. XD

I'm sure drawing one, maybe calling it fanart of the species, would be perfectly fine! And maybe if you changed the design a little from the basilisk monitor, and changed your now species name, I see no problem with keeping it as an OC. With perhaps credit for the original idea? :3 I didn't copyright giant lizards after all. X3

This is awesome! I love the frills.
(as a side note: your use of the word "sentient" is incorrect. "Sentience" in philosophy refers to the ability of a creature to "sense," and to experience pleasure/pain. Most agree that all vertebrates, and some invertebrates, are sentient. I see this mistake a lot with original species, and you're certainly not the first to make it. The biggest thing to remember about intelligence is that it is a twisty tangle of unknowns and subjectivity, not a sliding scale with bacteria on one end and humans at the other.)
oops... I'm rambling, just ignore me. Your species are awesome in every way, I'm just being philosophical.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like them!
(Hmm... would... 'self-aware' be a better set of words to use? Or, as a better question, how would you have put it? I wanted to portray the fact that they're not just... for lack of a better word 'beasts' like our own Earth lizards, but intelligent beings that can learn and understand languages, make decisions based on fact and feeling, as well as care for the well-being of other creatures/beings. 'Sentient' was the only word I could think of at the moment, but I would love to have my creature descriptions correct... if you can help me reword my descriptions I'd really appreciate it. :3)
No worries; I'm very glad someone pointed it out to me. Thank you!

They are so coooool!! Thank you for being awesome haha
(Honestly I would say exactly what you just said there. "Intelligent beings that can learn and understand languages, make decisions based on fact and feeling, as well as care for the well-being of other creatures/beings." The specifics are important, because some creatures might be considered "intelligent" and "sympathetic," but without a capacity for language. Others might be "rational" or even "genius," but are completely cold and uncaring.
But if you really want a word to use, some people like to use "sapient." In science fiction, it denotes a character or species with "personhood."
Haha so many quotation marks! XD I really love this subject. I could go on and on but I'll stop.)
