Land-based anti-ship and air defense missions. Besides which, I did put in on a carrier, the Zuiho. I figure in my alternate F-14NG timeline, Japan wrangled permission to build a couple.

i just saw the words for "Whirlwind" on the tail fin and those characters are the same in chinese and japanese

Thanks! Yeah, it's "Maikaze" on the tail, the squadron name. If you download the full-size picture and look closely, all the markings are in proper Japanese. I put a lot of work into translating things correctly.
