But what if there's a siren who is born without the gem, but can sing very good?

In my headcanon, the gem on their chest is pretty much their life source... Without their gem, they can't sing.  Without their singing, they cannot catch food or protect themselves.  They use their songs to draw their food (like an angler fish does with its light) or use sound waves to ward off anything that might harm them.

Their gemstones are also the reason there is so little of them.  Poachers would kill the sirens to harvest the gems to sell due to their high magical power or for jewelry.  Sirens who had poachers take their gems died shortly after.

We are shown in the movie, which is considered canon, that without the gem, they can't sing.  So no, a siren without a gem is most likely doomed to die early on due to lacking a major component of their being.

I just thought that without gems with singing voice should be a rare trait.

So sirens all share the same melodic hum the Dazzlings have?

You do know their "melodic hums" is actually a real musical term called vocalizing, right?  All people who sing do it, it's how they usually warm up or when in a choir.  Not just the sirens.

Yes, that's the word I was trying to say. Vocalizing.

Really? I guess it slipped my mind. I guess what I meant to say was if sirens of Equestria all vocalize in the same pitch that the Dazzlings use.

The Dazzlings actually sing in different octaves, you can hear it in their songs.  Adagio's definitely an alto while I think Aria's a second soprano and then Sonata's got first soprano.  Being in choir all my life, I know how to pick out different voices, so maybe it's just me.  But nah, it's hard to visually depict the voice used.  Treble has a alto-second soprano range.
