On a train that can go anywhere, anything's bound to happen!

I was thinking about going out and taking pictures of local freight trains to model in 3D, but I like yours better! I want to model it
Not only is it the best design I could find across the internet, real or made up, but it's drawn from the single most useful angle to me as a 3D modeler. Would that be cool if I modeled it? Credits to you for your design, of course.

Yeah sure, go ahead - the design's been kinda sitting in the corner gathering cobwebs anyway.

Yay! I'll brush those cobwebs off for sure.

This is cool! A trackless train, good idea! It reminds me of a heavy metal I got a long time ago. There was a story about an abandon desert world that had trackless trains. I think to make it a little more fantasy you could smooth out the front a little and maybe add some gold or silver ornemintation. It look's cool to me the way it is though! nice work!

too cool! fantasy elemts i would think of would be etherial kind of lighitng, blues and possibly sparkles. but that's just the inner raver in me speaking. fantasy wise i guess one would want to streamline it, or add a few outta the box details like metal fin scales or a different kind of smoke stack. just my two cents *plink plink*
as to the drawing itself its very technically well done! ^.~ you dont mee me to remind u about ur skill! but ... yeah tis there an this ish proof! *likes choochootrains*

Maybe its wheels can turn downward and enable the train to fly or something (since there's no tracks and all)... I'm just being silly. This is an excellent painting, the thumbnail looked like a model train.

i really like the army tank tires...it gives that sweet extra mobility and freedom of direction a train misses...
These days trains are more about flatness and airodynamics then design...i would love to see one of yours drive thru, that's actually a fun thing to look at when u are waiting hours and hours...
great job!

Have you ever seen Rodney Matthew's works? Totally different style, but he did a really cool fantasy train pic that you might like.

Ill start off by saying it is a great design and a great peice, nice details. My ideas were just to make it abit less uniform. Probably think about making it less like a slick bullet train and ruin aero-dynamics by raising the hights of carages etc, gives it abit of variation.
I would say make the grill at the front pretty large over axagurate its size and mabye make the design of it kinda sharp and sleek.
Give the exhaust a real unique design, make heaps of them, all like on the same angle or something.
Mabye the material the train is made of could be abit more varied, like mabye a sense of underwhat circumstances the train was made, built from like heaps of scrap metal.
Add like heaps of cultural markings, stained glass windows, signs of the sivilisation,
Just some crappy ideas but yeah, I recon you could be really creative and even alittle over the top with this and youd come out with a really unique look.

Nah thats all cool and I get what you mean. I think the ultimate goal in that kind of design is to create something that looks cool yet still has a grounding in reality. I get a good sense of that from really well thought out and planned sci-fi and fantasy. Just reading conceptual design stuff from evangelion and LotR stuff amazes me in that way.

As an aspiring engineer, "KISS" keeps on playing in my mind when I design...and doing those kinds of things just really goes against those kinds of instincts =/ I dunno, I like to entrench my design ideas in reality as much as possible. For instance, it doesn't make sense to stick three smokestacks right on top of the boiler room, right? And it wouldn't make sense to stick a bunch of pistons near the bottom when all you need is one very sturdy one. Stuff like that goes through my mind when I design. Honed from years spent on the science team designing cars and what have yous

Nice job it looks great as it is
fantasy .... hmmm im not good at that the lots of curvs and stuff sounds good, if it was me everything on it would need to look like it can cut you ideas could be found hear [link]
gGood luck

I agree with JenZee, give it some sharp points, like horns almost. Fantasy....make it seemingly be alive, like a pumping heart.

Hmmm good jobbbb ~~~ I envy your mechanic skills T_T. Why not triple major in Mechanical Engineering too >

.
Anyway, fantasy elements... " Structurally" speaking, I'd say add a lot of curves that end in sharp points (This is me speaking though, so I'm just...projecting what *I* personally would do with it >_>
.... Look at some Art Nouveau stuff, and try incorporating something "like it" into the metal frame (Nouveau works well since a lot of it is done in metal anyway)... Ahhmmmmm this is completely superficial-wise though...if you're talking..... Gao Gai Gar kind of "fantasy" (it converts into a hot dog stand when you press a button), I'll er...try to think of something >_>. Grah, talk to you on IM later
I r not at dorms right now....

lovely work. gotta love the darker/less saturated colours of the train. kinda gives it a colder feel.....the tank treds rock too.

fantasy elements to steam engine? well.. i guess you can always make it spit pixy faeries instead of smokes...
i think rust will be cool.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of structural elements o.O I mean, the train is obviously gonna need some kinda fantasy kinda fuel to run those treads...Maybe weird exhaust things near the driver area?

weird exhaut things is always good. maybe weird plant grow on the train, like those green things grow in wet dark places.

Give it vines wrapping around the wheels....have something strange comming from the part that releases steem...like...candy or something. Or you can have the smoke from skulls in the air.
Great picture^^
