Loki x Reader: Hypnotizer

Traps 'n Temperament: Crescendo- Part Three

It was getting rather late as you cruised your decrepit, hutch-backed Volvo out of town, but you didn't feel tired in the slightest. That power nap with Fenrir had done wonders, and you were once more in the power seat. Though you were still unsure of what to do about the Loki situation, you felt more in control of yourself and that was start. Loki might have won round one, but the game wasn't over yet. You still had time to make a come back, and you were placing a winning bet. Janie’s Asgardian Thor was the key, and you’d talk to him come hell or high-water.
As you switched lanes on the freeway that you were currently gliding down, you turned to look at your roomie who had fallen asleep about 30 minutes ago. Where the car trip had started out as a bouncy, loud affair, Darcy had soon grown sleepy (she had worked all day, and even caffeine could only do so much) and you had quickly turned the music to something more relaxing. Your instrumental version of the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack had definitely worked wonders; Darcy Lewis was out cold.
After making sure that Darcy was still doing alright, you lifted your gaze to your review mirror to check on Fenrir. To your surprise, the giant dog was wide awake and was watching you. His gray eyes matched yours in the rear-view and you smiled at him through the glass.
“Hey handsome.” You spoke in your normal tone of voice- seeing as Darcy was a heavy sleeper. “Enjoying the ride, back there?”
Fenrir snuffled gently and your smile grew. Though you’d only had the dog in your company since earlier that day you’d already grown extremely attached to him. It would be a sad thing when you had to give him back to his master. . . You really didn't wish to give him back. . .

. . . . Perhaps you wouldn't have to.
“Fenrir . . .” you stopped and shifted your line of vision from the mirror, though you could feel the canine’s eyes still studying you curiously. You didn't know why you were voicing your thoughts aloud; Fenrir might like you, but he was just an animal. Sure, he was extremely intelligent and understood a startling amount of human speech, but you couldn't ask him such an important question and expect a coherent answer and understanding. . . it’d have to be on you. Despite all of your rational thinking and misgivings, you continued.
“Fenrir, how would you like to stay with me and Darcy? I know that you already have a Master, somewhere, but I . . . well after today I realized that besides Darcy I don’t have anyone who will stand up to bat for me when I’m in trouble. . . I've never had many friends; I don’t fit in most times because I’m different.” You stopped mid babble and shook your head with a laugh. You really were a lonely and sad human being if you were this desperate to have a friend.
“What I’m trying to say is: would you want to be my pet, if I don't contact your master? . . . Will you stay with me as my friend and companion, handsome-boy?”
Unknowingly your nose scrunched- you didn't expect an answer but it felt nice to get it out of your system. . . .But then you heard the fluffy dog shifting in the back seat. Before you could lift your eyes back to the mirror you felt Fenrir’s soft head rest on your shoulder, his muzzle hovering next to your face. And as you turned your head slightly to look at him, the giant husky licked your cheek gently and let a deep whining escape him. It wasn't a sad noise; more of a understanding one, and you instantly felt your throat close up with emotion. Perhaps he understood more than you thought. . . Perhaps he needed someone just as much as you did.
“Thanks, Fenrir,” you said moving your cheek to nuzzle him back, while returning your eyes to the road. “I needed that.”
Though you didn't look away from the freeway again or say another word for nearly an hour after, Fenrir didn't move from your shoulder and his gray eyes never stopped watching you.

You stood next to your car, face distorted into a nasty grimace as you stared at the white washed house that lay before you. It had taken nearly 4 hours of hardcore driving to make it to your destination, but you were finally here. . . Jane’s newly bought home; and what a house it was. From the outside it looked like a catalog structure straight from a magazine, and you instantly felt like vomiting. Good ole Janie, always one for beauty- though you were sure that the house would be cluttered inside (she never had been much of a housekeeper; too involved in her work.)
On the other side of the ancient Volvo, Darcy was stretching and looking around the quiet suburb. Your quirky roomie had awoken when you got off the freeway, and had been complaining about having the munchies ever since. Once she had popped her back efficiently, the former intern turned to look at you.
“Nice driving, honey-bunch. We made it here in record time.”
“Not that I wanted to,” you grumbled as you moved to open the back door for Fenrir. “I could have gone several years without having to visit this place.”
Darcy groaned as she locked and shut her own door, “Oh come on (F/n)! It’s not going to be that bad!”
“Probably not,” you agreed as the husky elegantly exited the car and stood patiently at your side. “But me and Jane don’t exactly click at the best of times.”
“Honestly what happened between you two? Did she steal your boyfriend when you guys were growing up together? Or push you off of your tricycle when you were riding it and she wanted a turn?”
You felt yourself clam up slightly as a chord was struck, but otherwise were very calm. When you were silent, Darcy’s eyes grew wide.
“Wait, wait! . . . She seriously stole your guy?”
“Yeah,” you said with a shrug, “But that was just the icing on the cake. We've never really gotten along. We were pushed together as children and forced to spend time as ‘best friends’ but it just never took. . . I love her cause she’s blood, but as far as being buddies . . . well, I just have better things to do than listen to her fangirl about the stars and Hubble telescopes.”
Darcy was silent for several long moments, deadpanning, before she started to laugh. “She stole your boyfriend! HAHAHAHAH!!! Oh man, that’s priceless!”
You frowned, “You didn't listen to anything else I just said, did you?”
“Nope, I got stuck on the boyfriend bit.”
“I got over that ages ago, he was an idiot anyway.”
“But still, baby-girl. . . Feel the burn!”
“Thanks, Darce. . . Also, you are extremely immature.”
Darcy winked at you, “You wouldn’t love me if I wasn’t, honey! Now come on, let’s go face that boy-stealing cousin of yours!”
You sighed heavily as Darcy hooked her arm in yours and dragged you towards the perfect house of doom. Fenrir trotted along on your other side, his ears perked up and his nose anxiously sniffing the air. If his behavior was anything to go by, he was almost as uncomfortable as you were.
You reached out your hand and laid it on his back, trying to comfort him as you all climbed the porch steps together and stopped before the door. The gray eyes were looking up at you again, and you gave the massive husky pup a encouraging nod as Darcy giddily rang the doorbell.
For several moments you all stood in the quiet night as you waited for someone to answer the door, and then to your dismay the door slid open a crack to show a deep brown eye.
“Hello?”
“Hey Boss Lady,” Darcy said, leaning forward to match her eye with Jane’s. “It’s me and (F/n).”
The door closed for a second while Jane clicked the chain latch at the top of the door, before it swung open the full way. The infamous Dr. Foster stood in a simple pair of jeans and t-shirt, and she looked completely surprised as she regarded you and Darcy.
“Darcy, (F/n) . . . what are you guys doing here?”
“Well we kinda have an emergency that we need help with.”
You rolled your eyes heavenward as Darcy buttered it up, but remained silent.
“W-What kind of emergency?”
Here you cut in, “The kind that involves Asgardian mischief and life ruining. We hate to drop in on you unannounced, but I need to speak with Thor. His brother has invaded my personal space and I need to have that remedied as soon as possible.”
Jane stared at you, looking disbelieving before she turned to Darcy and saw her former intern nodding in agreement with your statement. With a startled expression, the astrophysicist moved aside so that there was room for both of you to pass through into the house.
“Thor went out to get us some pizza- we were gonna watch a movie- but he should be back anytime now.”
“Thank you, Jane,” you said sincerely as Darcy entered and you moved to join her. “I promise we won’t crash on you any longer than necessary. I just need some answers.”
“It’s never crashing (F/n),” Jane replied, and surprised you by wrapping you up in a hug. “You’re family.”
You awkwardly patted her back, and felt somewhat bad for what you had said just moments before. It was hard to be annoyed with someone who was being so darn nice.

When she finally pulled away after a second more, you turned to Fenrir and called him to follow you inside, but Jane stopped you.
“Uh... You and Darcy can stick around as long as you need to, but the dog stays outside. Me and Thor just did the floors.”
You shook your head retreating a step, “That's cool; I’ll wait out here for Thor with my pup.”
Darcy, who was standing near Jane in the doorway, moved forward and grabbed your arm for the second time that night. “Come on, (nickname); respect the home.”
When you remained stoic, she continued, “The pooch can wait outside for a couple hours on his own, honey. It’s not like it’s going to kill him.”
You frowned and fought to pull your arm away. You knew that he was in fact a dog, and had thick enough fur to comfortably withstand the elements for as long as needed, but you didn't have the heart to just go inside. Fenrir was far from his home; it was a new environment and it wouldn't be right to leave him in it on his own.
“I’ll stay with Fenrir,” you said again, but when you turned to look down at the dog, you were surprised to see that he was no longer standing by you. The giant husky was currently laying on the other side of the porch, his head resting peacefully on his paws, staring at you expectantly. You knew that confusion was covering your face, but you couldn't help it. It was almost as if he was telling you that he was fine and to go ahead.
Darcy laughed triumphantly as she pulled you into the house, “See! Fenny’s just fine! He’s not going anywhere!”
You really didn't want to leave him, but as the door closed behind you, you sighed with resignation. You’d check on him in a little while, and if Thor wasn't back in a hour you’d go wait with Fenrir in the car until he got back. But for now you would play nice, and try to be patient.
“So,” Jane said haltingly as you all moved to sit in the large living room off the entry hall. “Tell me what happened with Thor’s brother?”
“It’s a long story, Janie.” You said with a humorless laugh.
Jane gave you a patient smile. “I've got time. Tell me everything.”

As soon as the door closed firmly behind the females, Loki returned to his true form. Though it had been unplanned, Thor’s mortal had given him the opportunity that he had needed to set up his encounter with both his own human and his oaf of a brother. He had needed a moment to slink away into the shadows, and he had gotten it. So he now wasted no more time.
The God stood tall on the porch, his blue-green eyes taking in the humble Midgardian dwellings as his thoughts raced to what (F/n) had said on the journey here. She had claimed to be lonely and for the most part friendless. . .and it had struck something deep within him. Though Loki wasn't one to openly admit his true thoughts and emotions to those around him, he had been able to empathize with the mortal woman. . . More than perhaps he would have liked to.
You needn't worry, mortal, Loki thought as he closed his eyes. I shan't leave you on your own against your troubles again. You and I are in this together, and you shall have something to cling to from this day forward.
With this thought in place, Loki focused his magic on his body. As the raw energy rose within him, the Trickster sapped the aura into a specific action and slowly opened his eyes with satisfaction. There, facing him only a foot or so away was the Fenrir Wolf, staring back at him happily. With an incline of his head Loki smiled at his canine counterpart, and then made the apparition bow back to him.
Fenrir would stay close to (F/n) and provide her the comfort she needed, and he would be able to experience both her wrath and her affection. He would be two beings at once- in control of and playing both.

As Loki regarded himself in wolf form he had to say that it was some of the best magic he’d ever crafted. Even Thor wouldn’t be able to see through it, though he would definitely try.

The mischievous deity now moved to the door of the house, and as the wolf came to stand at his side he opened it with a simple flick of his wrist. It had been locked, but he was able to enter without hindrance.

Then with his other half in tow, Loki stalked into the living room with a deep chuckle that would have put most horror movie entrances to shame.

“So mortal," he crowed. "I let you care for my beast, and you repay me by leaving him out in the cold while you bicker like an old hen.” Loki clucked his tongue in mock hurt- enjoying the way that (F/n) immediately jumped up from the couch and sputtered in shock. Oh yes, he had played this perfectly.

“What a disappointment, my dear. . . Though we have more important things to discuss. Such as the whereabouts of my fool brother? Both you and the Thunderer have some things to account for.”
