I want to try it at least once with just the right piece.

Yeah you nit it right on! And this would turn out wonderful! Someday I suspect we'll all have 3D printers (and not have to shop so much )

that would be pretty tight yeah, you should look up 3d printed structures, it would be awesome if you could get some of your stuff 3d printed somewhere.

Indeed! I have looked into sites like Shapeways etc. it is something I will do eventually.
I have much more to learn when it comes to modeling, an Artist I watch here nic022.deviantart.com/ has helped me a lot along the way.
Check his gallery if you like 3D models and such he has many amazing works.
