My problem is that it feels as though most of the arguments made about why we can't see the Freedom fighters in the games (and I don't mean the idea I mean rotor and Sally etc), seem to not hold up that much.Sega wants nothing to do with them!
Yeah but project 2017 seems to show some interest in at least the freedom fighter idea, and maybe if this fandom spent more time showing interest in them instead of making crappy fan games about big and memes, we would be making progress.
People will want sonic and Sally to be together!
Sucks for them. I'm sorry but Sega has put their foot down about Sonic and relationships, and again, the fandom ruined that big time.
Too many characters!

I'm sorry but I stand my ground on how I feel about the Freedom fighters begin a possibility for the sonic games...it needs to happen in my opinion, and soon...

I'm all for it, as long as they're willing to use the old designs for the Freedom Fighters because the new designs look downright terrible.

Don't lie to your self the Old designs became outdated the moment SA1 redesigned the Characters so with out redesign would there always look kind of out of place so there is no change that there would ever appear in the games in there original designs.

Well there are a couple of complications that would come with there inclusion reaching from the obvious "How do we incorporate this characters into the games" (being comic based wouldn't be a good Idea not only are the comics mostly limited to America and even there are there a lot of people that don't like them so we had to incorporate them as whole new characters(with is also way I always lauge when people try to use the there had years of development in the comics argument because there would if introduced in the games start back by Zero)). Over "We already have so many characters that Sega barley uses anymore and now you want even more are you insane" with is obviously a huge problem and going all the way to "IF there aren't like there comic counter parts (with there wouldn't there would need to make changes to there history and maybe even the status and some personalty traits of the characters to make them work in the games continuity) all the Archie fans will whine that Sega ruined the characters so why even try if its not going to satisfy anyone any way" with is probably the biggest issue that people that want them in the games often don't realize.

There are a few risks such as overshadowing previous game characters making them irrelevant, and they can also be forgotten or be reduced to little importance. I'm not saying they should never appear but from my perspective fix and develop the current characters first then the freedom fighters can appear. (But a standalone game starring them would be great)

As much as I would like to have sally and the other freedom fighters in the games, it would be kind of a bad thing.

I wouldn't mind it if the freedom fighters join the main games I mean they don't have to be playable they could just be helpful NPCs (I think sonic should have more animal NPCs) I mean Harley Quin originated in batman the animated series and is now a part of the comics.

Well, it would definitely make the games more interesting instead of the usual stale installment we've been receiving ever since The Lost World but as complacent as SEGA is, they're definitely not going to do this, unfortunately. Taking risks takes too much effort and SEGA ain't much for effort anymore.Β

People say Sega needs to take risk well.........here you are. You are sitting right next to a golden opportunity all you need to do is gather the courage to do it. And they also don't have to worry about hurting the reputation of their precious Classic Sonic or main series Sonic as you can treat it as its own separate part.Β

Other than audience appeasement people have been complaining for years that Sonic's Friends were a huge problem and that they shouldn't be in the series as they are distracting. Now there isn't a large margin of other characters so Sega (or at least in Big Red Buttons case) had to change up the personailities of the main 4 because they had to keep them interesting enough to justify that ok we have this new iteration of Sonic brand spankin new so why the hell are we STILL abiding by this "Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy ONLY" formula. Boom would have been a perfect oppurtunity to see how different characters would fair in a brand new series that could serve as clean slate to be used. Big as a gruff mountain man or Silver as some sort of wizard of some sorts.
Instead we get Shadow and Metal Sonic who in the games only serve as one off bosses and make slight appearances in the later games but they didn't play around with them that much they just did the things you expected the characters to do like Shadow being demoted to a cliche anti hero villain who shows up randomly in a level to tell Sonic how worthless he is for depending on his friends. The cartoons are worse they quiet literally show up in a NON ACTION CARTOON to do an ACTION SCENE then fuck off to somewhere to not be used again.

It may me stupid (trust me it is) but that is the most plausible answer. Remember that like I said for a time a point of contention was Sonic's friends people were saying they were unnecessary and there were "too many". So Sega toke the Nuke the Ant Hill approach and stopped using them entirely only giving the love to Tails, Knuckles and Amy.

The Freedom Fighters actually made the Sonic and Tails relation seem like a complete family to the Sega duo, to me that justified their inclusion in any of my future fan art.
