Β I believe in 7th edition it was officially stated that Space Marines are rendered sterile during the gene process. Although some books like Lukas the trickster the Space Wolves gene-seed might be different, or at least they're having Offspring before being recruited as they speak of their descendants.

Space Marines are sterile by design. Emperor wanted to preserve humanity, not have it replaced by his genetically altered supermen.

Could be some, like βKahnβ from classic βStar Trekβ, who found ways or loopholes around that, still loyal, except in thinking that humanity NEEDS their genes and that the emperor wasnβt thinking long term enough. It might come down to how to interpret βhumanityβ, and whether more general genus or exact species is more important. If a specialist Marine reasoned himself into the former, he might figure out a way to let them breed, down the road.

The Space Marines are usually too busy to breed. Now the Space Wolves and Salamanders? They still need to get their numbers up and they like regular humans soooooooooooooooooo
