Description
The Kelpie is a creature out of Celtic folklore. It is a water-dwelling horse that is said to come on to land to lure victims back into the water where it will drown them and devour them. The only way to distinguish it between an ordinary horse is that is always dripping wet, no matter how long it has been out of the water.Sometimes the horse is said to take the shape of a woman, but as I already have a Jenny Greenteeth in my gallery (which will be re-done someday), I wanted to portray a different legendary creature.
Method: Acrylic and Prismacolor pencil on 11x14 inch Bristol paper.
Finished: August 2010

Lovely. This art medium definitely adds semention to the piece. I don't know, it makes the kelpie seem to have more depth. Good job!

Thanks so much! The mist I just did a wash of acrylic and water and blended with my fingers. I went over it slightly in photoshop to balance the color so it didn't look too green.

no problem!
NΓ€cken (the neck) of scandinavia is a related creature. Is a shape shifting waterspirit aswell that is usually in the form of a naked man that playes violin in rivers and creeks. sounds like a cool drawing concept, eh?

I don't meet many people who even know what a Kelpie is. Isn't that sad?

yes, but unfortunately not everyone is so knowledgeable in their mythology and folklore studies.
