Description Imagine taking entire years to come up with your character designs, even way after you've decided everything about them, and when you're finally done you still take weeks to post them because you need names for where they live lmao

Anyway that aside, I thought I would start the year in style by finally uploading the Gym Leaders of my fan Pokemon setting!!
So, the way things work in my fan region, which is now called Destina and based after Portugal (because I'm original and knowledgeable as fuck about other places lmao), it is divided in two halves with a bunch of cities for each part, the Northern part of the region and the Southern part, each having four Gym Leaders who all train Pokemon of a particular Type
Plus, since the region is designed (or would be if it were a real game orz) to allow the player to have relative liberty in their journey across the region, instead of them all having a very specific order that you're obligated to follow, you can choose the order in which you want to face them (within each half of the region), except for the first and last Gym Leader who you must absolutely fight in that order lol

With all that being said, let's get to know our characters!
In the top panel are the Gym Leaders from the Northern half of Destina, where you begin your game and who you must clear before proceeding to the second half. From left to right we have:
  • Heather (Torga in the original Japanese version), Gym Leader of the Viavenus Town Gym and the first Gym Leader you face. She mainly works as a firefighter, especially in teaching fire safety and preventing forest fires, although she also helps her colleague Holmea fight invasive Beedrils, and the two of them grew very close as such. Her Pokémon partner is a Scorbunny. Heather specialises in Fire-Type Pokemon, and gives the Ardent Badge to the trainers who defeat her.
  • Holmea (Azinha in the Japanese version), the Bug-Type Gym Leader of Marsvale Town. Holmea wears a high-tech magical girl-like armor that allows her to fly around like a jetpack, which she uses it to study native Bug-type Pokemon colonies, especially those that live high up in the trees, as well as monitor their populations which have been declining due to the introduction of invasive Beedrills. She fights Beedril colonies along with Heather, and the both of them have become very close to one another. She gives the Nectar Badge to the trainers who defeat her.
  • Lupine (Tremor in Japanese), Gym Leader of the Montdiana Town Gym, which isn't actually within said town (despite being officially known as such). Instead, it's located within a wide outdoors area high up in the Dianine Mountains known as Silver Hollow. Lupine specializes in Ground-Type Pokémon, and he boasts of both the power of the earth to reshape the landscape around it as well as it being the sustenance of natural life itself. He gives the Landscape Badge to the trainers who defeat him.
  • Hawke (Rita in Japanese),  the Flying-Type Gym Leader of Castelvesta Town Gym and also a historian that works to restore historical monuments. Her Gym is inside Castelvesta Fortress, an old castle whose restoration she oversaw herself. Her Pokemon partner is the regional bird. She gives the Gale Badge to the trainers who defeat her.
After you clear the four Gyms in the first half of the region, you unlock the Southern half of Destina, whose Gym Leaders you can see in the bottom panel. From left to right:
  • Killarney (Medronho in Japanese), the Gym Leader of the Plutobriga Town Gym, which is actually located in the basement of the Plutobriga Royal Palace. He acts as a caretaker for the massive estate and also as a curator for the library and museum inside it. He claims to know the history of the Palace as well as if he had "actually lived through it", and has a penchant for telling ghost stories and scaring off unpleasant guests. He quite fittingly specializes in Ghost-Type Pokemon, and gives the Crossing Badge to the trainers who defeat him.
  • Sloane (Abruna in Japanese), Grass-Type Gym Leader of the Sanceres Town Gym. Sloane's a sweet old lady with a green thumb and a passion for all sorts of plants. Her lifelong Pokémon partner is a Bayleef, but she also has a world-record Super Size Gourgeist. She gives the Harvest Badge to the trainers who defeat her, but she always gives a slice of her famous freshly-baked Pumkin Berry pie to any youngsters who visit her.
  • Ficus (Figo in Japanese), Gym Leader of the Vulserra Town Gym. Ficus is a Psychic-Type ace as well as a spiritual loner who teaches mind over matter and likes to meditate in the barren rocky moors near his town. He always teaches about the Three Awarenesses: awareness of self, awareness of others, awareness of surroundings. He gives the Awareness Badge to the trainers who defeat him.
  • Walder (Ramiro in Japanese), the Water-Type Gym Leader of the Nepturia Town Gym and the last Gym Leader you face. Walder is a fisherman who also studies the Horsea populations in the Turquoise Island Reefs, which has been declining due to illegal poaching, pollution and dredging. His Pokemon partner is a Samurott, but he also uses a Wishiwashi. Walder gives the Mariner Badge to the trainers who defeat him.

Whoo, that's a lot of information! Hope you guys got all that!
Seriously, these guys took me a fat while to design and to get just right, but in the end I'm happy with what I made, and it also helped me flesh out the region more. Hope you guys like them as much as I do!
Each Gym Leader was named after some sort of plant that's native to Portugal (as befitting a region based on it). Can you figure out all the trees, bushes, puns and references hidden in their names? (I might add an entire document explaining each name in detail soon but still give it a shot lol)
Yes I am aware the names in the Japanese version are in Portuguese, yes it is possible those are their official romanized Japanese names don't @ me
