in one of my other posts i said that dash wasn’t a good mother to her daughter Flash Bang (because of a fear of welding/molten metal, of which flash was very very interested it. there were other issues but I’m not sure how to write them out just yet). After maybe 10-12 years of being alone and focusing on the Wonderbolts, Dash is tasked with being the mentor to a young recruit that happened to be her friends’ kid. She was a quiet young filly who acted brashly and was defensive over the smallest of things, pushing Dash away because of reasons unknown.

Well Dash is also a hotheaded jerk so she told that kid that she can either shape up or ship out. Lil filly didn’t want that and broke down crying in front of Dash, saying that she felt different from other fillies, that she likes boy things and doesn’t like girl things. The breakdown struck a nerve with Dash, who had been made fun of in her youth for liking traditionally masculine things like sports, racing, and comics; Dash did her best to comfort the filly and told her that nothing’s wrong with liking “boy” things. To her shock, the filly broke down even harder and told Dash that she didn’t even want to be a girl anymore. She wanted to be a boy and have a boy’s name and live life as a colt/stallion, but her parents told her it was a phase that she’d grow out of. Dash was confused but immediately stepped up and asked the foal what they wanted to be called. The foal said they liked the name Aerial Shot, which Dash thought was cool as hell. Dash asked them if they wanted to be referred to by boy pronouns, to which the foal said yes please.

And thus began one of the closest bonds of any two characters from this nextgen universe

Over the next 6 years Dash helped Aerial to control his outbursts and perfect his flying. When Aerial started testosterone, Dash was his biggest supporter and the two learned skincare routines together to help cope with the rampant acne Aerial developed. Dash forced Aerial more than once to shave his little rat mustache and actually shower and Aerial got Dash out of her crotchety old lady box to go get some fucking burgers and look decent for celestia’s sake. Dash comes to think of Aerial as a surrogate nephew of sorts and Aerial calls her Aunt Asshole (very affectionately might I add). Dash was there through all the difficult conversations with his parents and will absolutely be there with ice cream and hot soup when he gets his double mastectomy and bottom surgery.

Eventually though, Dash realizes how much of a piece of shit she was to her daughter and wants to be a part of her life again. After a few months of talking to Flash and Quibble again, Dash introduces her daughter to her apprentice. The two get along great! Flash loves having a cool new little brother even if he’s tall and his hair smells weird like that and he turns red like a burn when she punches at his shoulder and always makes excuses to not be around when she comes in sweaty from working on a project

Aerial may or may not have the biggest dorkiest crush on his mentor’s daughter and she’s too oblivious to see it
