Yep, animals can eat animals so humans should also be allowed to eat humans.

Technically, animals can eat other animals as long as it out its species. Because if an animal ate another animal of the same species, then it would be cannibalism.

I guess it's because animals have adapted to eat certain prey and can't eat anything else for the majority, wheras humans have found an alternate way of getting a protein they need other than animals.

Β

But it is pretty ridiculous.

JazzMasterSaddler [2011-03-22 02:06:45 +0000 UTC]

Just want to point it out.

All carnivorous and omnivorous animals eat meat. I've never seen a bear "choose" to only forage for fruit and vegetables and not eat meat just because they can. Nor a cat or dog. Strays, with plenty of berry bushes and backyard gardens readily available to them regardless of fences and lack of pesticides, still choose to hunt and kill animals for food AND sport.

Snakehead fish attack anything they feel like it without the need for food and leave them to die bleeding. It's not about hunger or necessity, but about being the "biggest fish in the pond"

Male lions will attack and kill cubs just to get them out of the way to hump their mothers.

Many, many birds will shove their babies out of a nest and kill them if the place is too crowded for them before their old enough to fly. Sometimes even eggs about to hatch.

Many MALE birds will fight, and kill, each other over nesting privileges, even when they're plenty of room for everyone.

Male hippos, rhinos, elephants, seals, walruses, or just about any large toothed, tusked, or horned animal are very violent with each other just for territory and will very gladly and easily kill each other for the right to land, a female, or just elbow room.

Dolphins will kill other young dolphins just for being annoying.

Rodents eat their own young when their sick, weak, or injured.

Most males of any animal species battle to the death just to be the big man on campus.

Just saying, to the people who are all "animals only kill for food", it's bullcrap.

sexpet666 In reply to Romaniya [2011-03-22 20:52:36 +0000 UTC]

Oh dear....

I really, really have tried to avoid ever getting involved in anything like this but good grief...

I'm totally with the 'not hunting animals for trophies' (among other reasons) and I became and am a vegetarian for ethical reasons - the problem is with the environmental impact, the way the animals are treated etc etc.

But child prostitution? Please, please don't. I understand you are against PETA, but that there is the exact kind of rhetoric that drags the whole cause through the mud. I know they suffer, and I think it can be horrendous but at the end of the day they can only die once, you know?
Yes, animals suffer emotional distress at seeing their own and their children being hurt, killed, abused and they most like do have a higher level of cognition than we tend to give them credit for but they still aren't completely the same as us. They suffer trauma but I doubt they are quite a self-aware and able to evaluate their own circumstances and suffering in the same way as we do. They aren't abused by their own kind - but people that look like their parent, and the same animal as they're going to be surrounded by for the rest of their lives (assuming they -the animal or child - lives long enough)

Besides, isn't adult human trafficking bad enough? Why child prostitution? Appealing to emotion is a flawed tactic - even if you feel passionate you really aught to remain somewhat clinical in constructing your argument, as it's vital to understand the emotive connotation and effect of certain words, phrases and implications. I think the stamp fundamentally misunderstands some of the reasons people are opposed to eating meat, but I'm afraid you've misunderstood the graveness of your analogy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Spiritlobo In reply to Romaniya [2011-03-22 19:45:18 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I've read this argument, and I didn't want to intrude, but I think this needs to be said:
The fact that you're equating what happens to an animal to what happens to a child who has been abused disturbs me greatly.

Yes animals need to be cared for, to be treated humanely, and to be not be tortured. But as someone who has been has seen how cruel humans can be, they are two separate things. I'm not going to tell you my story, the story of people that I am great friends with, or the stories of my family--you don't need those images in your head. And hey, you may have the best argument in the universe. But you dragging other people in the mud to prove your point makes you no better then a child spouting crap on the internet.

From what I see you are using PETA theatrics to get your point across (compare something unsavory to something horrendous) and that doesn't prove a thing. C'mon, you're better then that. I know you are.
