The Pact
In my high school there were two girls who had been best friends since grammar school. They were essentially inseparable. They never admitted to being lesbian lovers, but that was the rumor (neither one had ever had a boyfriend), and a lot of the kids made fun of them over it. They were also wiccan (or claimed to be) and that was just another thing they used to get teased about. In senior year one of the girls, Beth, transferred to another school because her father had won custody of her and he lived in a different town (the mother was somehow in trouble with the law but I never knew the circumstances). Beth's friend (Vicky) was devastated and she spiraled down into a nasty depression. She basically had no other friends and no one to help her bear the brunt of the teasing. I remember she started coming to school drunk and just skipping tons of classes and just engaging in a lot of self destructive behavior. It was all very sad but a lot of the kids just thought she was being way overly dramatic.
I was a sophomore in college when I found out the rest of the story after running into a kid I went to high school with. During the summer after senior year the girls followed through with a suicide pact they had with each other. The really odd thing about it was that they each committed suicide on the same night but in different locations! One girl had rented a hotel room and had swallowed a bunch of pills, and the other went out into the woods with a bottle of vodka and slit the veins in her ankles. It just struck me what unbelievable trust they must have had in one another to be able to do something like that. In some strange way that incident became for me an odd, unachievable yardstick of devotion.

this works really well, but it's probably the story and the music that are helping me enjoy it (bush-in a lonely place)

wow. The story is incredible. But your choice of photos to manipulate is even more amazing. I love the hall on the left hand side, to show their time in highschool. and even the fact the hall is empty has depth and meaning. The way I see it the pale girl in the mist on the left is also just a memorie. That the crisp girl on the right is picturing her as she takes her own life off in the woods.
>_< Incredible.

wowee! strangely uplifting - (strange because of the outcome). but i find it beautiful that two people would love each other so much. it also instills hope, that the world maybe isn't as corrupt as i had thought. i love it.

Damn----Amazing. Great art, and great writing to go with it.
That kind of devotion between two people is unreal, and beautiful in a twisted way.

The story combined with the image really brought a tear to my eye...Your good...........Damn good..and although at first glance this wasn't one of your best art pieces, after reading the story behind it that was your motivation for creating it I just became overwhelmed with emotion. man. The image makes since now and I love it!

i was originally gonna say that this piece looks a lot more brighter and cheerful then some of your other work, but then i read the story. It does raise a lot of emotional and psychological questions. These girls must have really meant a lot to each other to follow through with their pact. Not that i agree with suicide pacts. But you can tell they really had feelings and couldn't bear to be apart. Anyways, your work pays fine homage to their act of loyalty to each other

This is so stunning. I am impressed by it on so many levels. The mood you have created here is so gentle, bathed in sadness and even a bit of regret. That 'best friend' was the true love of her life. Such love is beyond sex - any teenage girl will tell you that.

Haha, your pieces and stories always manage to make my day. And this is no exception. Although, if you don't mind that I ask, what is with the window in the girl on the left's head?

The window represents the hallway of the hotel where the girl killed herself, the trees on the other side represent the woods where the other girl killed herself...
