Tyler rubbed his arms as he left the house. He had heard footsteps leaving before him, cutting through the morning. He shifted his jacket onto his shoulders, the Tasmanian spring cold feeling a little chillier coming from Texan summer. Jetlagged and exhausted, he made himself wake up early that morning to catch up with the horses before breakfast. Val would inevitably be cooking something particularly good for his first meal back, he had missed her cooking dearly. The gravel crunched underfoot as he walked his way down to the open barn. Sam must have been up early to start feeding. He didn't think much about it as he walked through the barn toward the back doors to the stallion's yards, stopping only to pat Ally's forehead as she greeted him over the stall. Out the back doors, the three stallions stood at attention, still locked in their stables. He smiled gently to himself, seeing the stallion he tried while in the US. He was excited to work with him again, he really enjoyed the stallion's personality. Tyler opened the cold metal gate to the yard and grabbed the soft leather halter hanging on the hook by the stable door. The dark grey stallion whickered and nuzzled him softly, begging for attention. He ruffled Ollie's forelock and opened the stall door, slipping inside. The stallion was neat, as most were, keeping his stall fairly clean overnight. He pulled the halter on and buckled it by his ears, before leading him out the stall, out the yard and down the barn aisle. As the pair reached the other side, he saw a small teenager storming over toward him, towing behind her a half-worked Chatter, decked out in his double bridle and all. She carted herself and the palomino gelding right in front of him, and crossed her arms as she stood. Ollie reached over to sniff her, but she pouted at Tyler.
"Who the hell are you and what are you doing with a stallion?!" Tyler was a bit taken aback. It was far too early for him to be dealing with this kind of thing. He blinked at her.
"Uhm... I work here..." He stumbled over his words. God, now it looked like he was lying about that. He reeled Ollie back in closer. "Who are you?" He asked, trying to sound as guiltless as possible.
"Dude, I've worked here for months! If there was someone else working here I would know about-" Her already fair face drained in colour. "Oh shit. Are you Tyler?"
"Yeah, that's me." All the colour returned the girl's face, concentrated at her cheeks.
"Shit, I am so sorry. I'm Aveline. I was hired while you were away still. Fuck, I'm so stupid." Tyler forced an uncomfortable smile.
"It's okay. I'd rather you question it than just let someone walk around with a stallion." At least that wasn't a lie, he truly did feel better that watchdog Aveline would be on the case if anyone tried to steal a horse from underneath them. Chatter had wandered off to the nearby grass while Aveline wasn't holding him and had his head down ravenously, devouring grass like he'd never been fed before. "You should probably grab him before he inhales the grass and gives himself founder again." Aveline nodded wordlessly, biting her lip as she retrieved the golden pony. Tyler felt a bit sorry for her, but she had managed to make the situation really uncomfortable for both of them. He figured he should at least do his best to rectify the situation. "Hey, I think Val will have breakfast on soon. Did you want to put these two away and start again over breakfast."
"That sounds like a plan to me." She grinned at him, stepping over the embarassment with ease. She walked briskly, pony in tow, back into the barn.
GOD FINALLY. I still have so much catching up to but at least Tyler fuckin' EXISTS now. I still have approximately 6 more horses to bring in, and I ofc keep buying more. Someone stop me
