Description This week is Flux week. Every day, I'm posting something related to my comic strip "My Life in Flux".

This is two sketches of the character called Rocket, and how she slowly evolved during the slow process of maturation. No one will pretend that I'm rushing these things.

Hm. I noticed all the colours are reversed. Black hair to purple hair, purple shirt to black shirt, and black pants to purple pants. Nice to see the character sketch development as well. Great job!

Yeah, I had a vague idea of what I wanted back then, and I refined it over time in my head. And it's still evolving, actually.

Hehe that happened to me as well. I probably should make some comparison as well, between my old design and my recent design

You definitely should.

It's great to see these sketches, man-- I really love the first version of Rocket here, though she probably looks like she's still a pretty young girl with make-up (a bit like Wynona Ryder's character in Beetlejuice), and the second version looks more mature. But both designs work great though-- simple and elegant!

I didn't use the first version because, let's face it, that's Violet Parr.

The current version of the character looks like the second sketch, but she looks slimmer, younger, a little more depressed and she has longer hair, so it's a mix between the two.

Uh... who's Violet Parr?

Right, and you kept the t-shirt from the first version (a bit shorter) in the current one as well.

You know, Violet Parr ?

And ultimately, we'll see Rocket wear different clothes, but in the first three strips where she appears, there's no way that she could have unpacked her suitcase.

Ah! I had seen some promo images from The Incredibles, but I haven't seen the movie-- I had no idea how the character was called. My first thought was that you were referring to a Chilean singer, Violeta Parra, but she didn't look at all like the character in the sketch. [link]
Anyways, I don't really think that there's a lot of resemblance between Rocket version 1 and the Violet Parr character from The Incredibles, to be honest.

And that's a great idea about having Rocket wearing different clothes. I remember reading something by, I think, John Byrne, whom I have never been a fan of by the way, but the guy said something that I thought was very wise, about how women in comics always wear the same clothes, while usually a woman would have a more diverse wardrobe... so that's a capitol idea, changing Rocket's outfit as the comic goes on, sir.

I'm coming from the Jaime Hernandez side of the debate, so my characters change clothers all the time.

And really, you should watch The Incredibles.

Yeah, you know, there's a reason she's called "Rocket".
