Description

The days are getting shorter and the leaves are falling from the trees by the time Bucky learns to smile again. Steve couldn’t be happier.

I thought I’d try something with a background again… so yeah, autumnal city park it is! Painted with Paint Shop Pro 9 and a Wacom Bamboo tablet.

I would say, "join us, the water's fine." But it would be a lie. The water is cold enough tl freeze Steve Rogers and you WILL be crying.
My only advice is to learn to like the pain and leave your heart where it won't get damaged.

Thank you! I've been getting terrible at backgrounds, so I forced myself to do one for this piece! Glad it worked for  you!

Yeah, I like to try and draw them happy, because this fandom is so full of angst - they need a bit of fluff at the end of it all, I think! XD

okay, here's the link! I couldn't see how this would work on deviant art. most people upload their tutorials as one long picture, but i can't be concise when i'm hurrying, so it would have contained too much text. and text in an image is terrible as people can't change the font size for easier reading. hope you enjoy the tutorial! it got a lot longer than I thought it would be! XD

Thank You soooo much!!! and don't rush yourself Bro..I could have waited weeks for you to do the tutorial :33  God I am going to start doing what you do specially the whole colouring process O____O You be sooo goooddd!!! but last question how long (avg) does it take you to do a painting starting from the sketch all the way to the end??

the-physicist In reply to BackwardsRainbow [2014-04-24 10:58:23 +0000 UTC]

It varies, but it does take a couple of days generally. Depends how much time I waste just looking at what I've done and frowning at it, rather than getting on with actually painting! But yeah, at least 2 days I guess! I hope I'll get quicker... when I try out something new or have to go consult books and tutorials that takes up a lot of extra time of course... I don't always work in the grey scale, but it's really a good habit for me to get into, because I don't think I'm actually all that good with colours. I generally go for the: MORE IS MORE approach, which isn't... um, actually, the BEST way, hehe. So yeah, working in grey scale means I can then change the colours to whatever I want multiple times to see what works and what doesn't work. Like I put in my tutorial, it took a fair few attempts for me to sketch the colours in vaguely right!
On this picture here, Learning to smile, it also took me a lot of attempts to find colours I liked. It was ages before I found something I was okay with, although I still wish I'd done it a bit different somehow.
But that's my other tip: just finish the art, even if it's not perfect, and move onto the  next one rather than hitting 'delete and start over again'. I mean, making changes is fine, but at some point the project has to move forward and get finished. More is more in this case . At least, that's what I think, hehehe, I guess others might disagree. XD

O___O Bro you are like the most awesomest person EVERRRRR!!! I need to start doing Gray-scale since I really do suck at doing colour..I am like completely retarded when it comes to me finding colours that actually work together..I might be colour blind or something of the sorts :33 I need to learn to take my time when I draw also...I am like a speed sketcher I tend not to actually go back over and clean my work nor my line work...I need to change that bad habit of mine. That and learn anatomy..Like I know anatomy but I want to destroy the picture I am drawing because it looks weird...but never mind me thank you so much for evening talking to me..

the-physicist In reply to BackwardsRainbow [2014-04-25 10:13:31 +0000 UTC]

Another reason to do everything in grey-scale first is to make sure you have a lot of interesting values in your picture, a contrast of dark and light areas... such contrasts make a picture interesting and sometimes when you turn an image you did in colour into grey-scale you can see that it's all the same value and you can't tell the difference between the figures and the background so easily any more! That's a bad sign . The picture should look cool in grey-scale too, cause then when you add the colours they really 'pop'. I'm still learning too though. I haven't had time to actually draw and paint in 10 years, so this is the first time I can actually get back into art and really try to improve myself! I'm best at pencil drawings actually. So colour really doesn't come naturally to me at all! D:
(You can find a free pdf online *cough* of James Gurney's book Color and Light - just saying... )

Bro thanks for the Info I am working on a all grey-scale picture then doing the whole layer of colour on top of it..*cough* I found the pdf of the book*cough cough* Thanks!! I need to add more contrast on the picture before I even think about laying colour on...*tackle hug* THank you so much!!! I feel so special because you took time out of day to even do these things!!
