"Seeing him there reminded her of their kithood, when the creaking barn walls would frighten him and she would be the one to make him feel better, poofing up her fur and telling him that she would scare away all the monsters outside before they dared try and eat him.

They were grown now, and their home was no longer the barn. They knew now that there were no such things as monsters... at least... not that kind. But the woods were still a dangerous place to let your guard down in, and here he was, napping against a tree. She should probably wake him, scold him for making her look all over for someone who'd been lazily dozing on tree-roots, but the peaceful expression on his face held her in check. In the end, all she could do was let out a soft, resigned sigh.

So instead she sat there, breathing in the forest as she watched for monsters."

Also, been a while since I did bunches of individual grass blades! Feels good.
