He sat – near silent – upon the marble-based surface of the washroom counters, listening carefully as the soft steps of the other approached him. He heard her robes gently ruffle along her kneeling form as she sat down in front of him, a little unprepared shiver creeping up his spine as her cool hands came around his achy torso, peeling off the soaked bandages around his skeletal form. Runner turned his head down towards her, wishing to the Unknown Powers to gaze upon her again. To think Faith felt like this all the time...was a torture all its own.

“....You’re trembling,” his hoarse voice let out. It was near sickening to listen to.
Faith made no sound as she continued taking the bloody bandages off. Runner gave a sigh, removing a shaky hand from beside him to place atop Faith’s one near his ab. She stopped, her head lifting, “Runner, I have to change this set. P-Please...”
“Faith, I-I am so s-sorry....”
“NO!” she near screamed out, her sudden and brash comment smacking him across his face as he turned his head away, “Stop saying that IDIOTIC word, TimeRunner! Stop saying you’re sorry every time your stitches tear from you breathing! Stop saying s-sorry when you vomit up blood on the sheets! Stop saying sorry f-for not being unable to walk or-or talk properly yet! Just-Just....!”

Her head suddenly collapsed onto his lap, Runner’s head lowering. She....was crying, her tears soaking through the thin black material of his pants. She was quaking over him, choking back her sorrow as she began to hiccup, “J-Just st-op saying s-sorry w-when you’ve done nothing wrong....I’m sorry, my dear TimeRunner. I-I am so-so-so sorry...”
He reached down with numbed fingers, entwining them in her sleek silk-like hair, rubbing her head softly as he soothed over the arm her face was buried in, “....Don’t apologize for this, Faith. For all this...I-I can’t believe I am putting you through this. Having to watch me turn into this....corpse. I...”
He suddenly stops, knowing he is not helping as he continues patting down her hair.

A few black tears soaked through the bandages over his eyes, dripping down off his face. His broken voice let out a few broken words.

“....I promise you, Faith....n-never to put you through th-this ever again....”

I was asked recently why Faith is so darn overprotective of TimeRunner. Surely being a Time Deity and such, he can handle himself. The truth is...he can Runner is one of the most powerful Deities in existence, regardless of all his issues. Very few things can actual hurt – let alone kill – him. However, this does not mean Deities haven’t tried.

And in one such circumstance, a Deity nearly succeeded in doing so

I will not go over too many details, but I will mention it relates to the scar still left upon his stomach (as shall be seen in the up incoming image Unbound).
It took Runner a good few years to recover. Faith was with him every step of the way, but...it was not an easy time for either one of them. She honestly believed Runner was going to die. The Time Deity was even begging for it in his weaker moments in between screaming, convulsing and choking...

Since then, Faith has been a lot more wary of what happens to him. She has raised him since he came into existence, and has done all she can to ensure he remains safe. This instance showed her that it was possible to lose him. She never wishes to see him in such a state again.

This image looks really nice, actually. I debated on whether or not to add color, but I found the black and white motif suited it better.
I usually rely on expressions for these sorts of pieces to get the emotions I wish them to from my viewers. But as we can see, both their expressions are, for the most part, hidden. I find it added more to the tone and mood for it.
