ahh, it's been too long since i drew one of these guys! this feels like some Alex circa 2005!I had a blast working on this piece. it's honestly making me consider working with this process more. lots of pencils and photoshop painting in this badboy! anyway, this was done for the Rockets Robots and Rayguns show opening this friday, july 1st at Jinxed in norther liberties. pretty excited about all the work i've seen for the show so far. it should be a good one.
hope you guys like this piece. i'm actually pretty psyched about it! i'd really like to hear what you guys think though.

Dig the screentone in contrast with the pencil texture, it's unexpected and interesting. The blue and yellow really punches it up too.

Iron Giant is definitely what I thought immediately upon seeing it. Great image, though. Love the color and detail.

Yes, I agree with you, the pencil+photoshop combination is awesome. The pencil lines give that distinct texture that, well, only pencil can

right on. you're right that it's really hard to match that authentic pencil on paper texture and i should probably try not to lose that in my work. i do love a LOT of fully digital work, but there's definitely something to be said for a hands on approach at some part of the process.
