Description
My attempt to model Spyro. It went pretty nicely. Texturing isn't normally my strong point but it worked out nicely on this one.*Update: I have fixed a few problems and made a much nicer render. I have also fully rigged him for a total animation.
I used the program "Blender". You can download it at [link] It's free and has an extensive tutorial library.

I didn't get the new one. The toys aspect is what drove me away.....I would have gotten it otherwise. But I also thing he looks terrible but w/e at least this game has revived spyro. I can thank it for that.

yeah the LoS series was great. I'm 18 and i thought it was great. That series had a broader audiance than the new game could. They killed off Spyro's older fans with that game. I can't believe they named that purple goblin with wings Spyro.

I gave him blue eyes out of personal preference. I think the blue looks better but that's just me. And thanks for the Fav.

Does the program need the use of the internet?

You need to use the internet to download the program but once it's downloaded you don't have to be connected to the internet.

TheApiem In reply to Juro-The-Dragon [2011-11-17 23:58:31 +0000 UTC]
Making eyelids is hard but making them animate well is just painful. I'm trying to animate this model now and, as you could imagine, the face is by far the hardest to animate. I recommend looking up some tutorials on modeling eyes or faces on YouTube or something. I had the "pleasure" of keeping all of my knowledge of how to use blender and model correctly either self taught or ripping apart downloaded models from games in order to find out how the game designers made it. As for this model, I made the eyes after looking at the eyes out of some models that were ripped from The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. Whatever way you end up finding out, just be persistent.

cool. Maya is good. I've only gotten a chance to use it at my high school because it's really expensive compared to a free program that can do just as much while only requiring a little more effort. I'd probably use Maya if I got it for free as if that would ever happen. lol

I used blender. It's like maya except it's open source and free and doesn't cost hundreds of dollars. You can download it at www.blender.org/download/get-blender/. I've been using this probrsm for a few years so I've had a lot of practice with it.

Membranes on the wings need some smoothment (lol does that word exist?), cause some rought edges are visible. Also might not hurt to add some regular textures and bumpmapping then he'll look exactly as he does in the game.

I've updated the picture and fixed the problem I had with the wings being shaded flat instead of smooth.

TheApiem In reply to Krovash [2011-10-18 13:25:58 +0000 UTC]
I kept the wings with a flat shade because the lighting was messed up after applying a smooth shade. I couldn't fix it so I just decided to keep it the way it is.
