Exactly. Compassion isn't exactly in ZIM's vocabulary. Granted, his vocabulary is pretty limited anyway. It's obvious he doesn't quite grasp Earth languages. Hehe.

I get this feeling Zim would care a little. Maybe try to brush it off as a victory but feel the guilt for a very long time.

Well in one of the unaired episodes dib switched scientific perfection to work with his father. And during this time zim entered a depressed state at the lack of attention from his enemy, and thus moped around on the couch the upset GIR into getting the bored dib to ditch his dad and go back to fighting zim. So if dib really did die then zim would enter a depressed state again until membrane would turn his son into an android like in the time machine episode.
Sorry didn't mean to go all nerd on you. But this is a really good drawn out plot of that if. I really like!
