Her name is Lidochka Alkaev, but her married name is Lydia Gillespe.

She started off in America, New York, in the 50's as a 'mail-in Russian bride' but was quickly discarded by her would-be suitor. He refused to 'refund' her, and she was left on the streets, no where to go, no one to talk to... Until, she wandered into a little Russian neighborhood, where she met her, now, husband. He was a lawyer, working to get undocumented immigrants their visas. They took a particular liking to one another and many years later they ended up founding a crisis center for battered women, and Lydia worked tirelessly to try and push for women's rights both in the work place and at home.

And thanks to her husband, she also had connections with the NYPD for such cases and helped get perpetrators put behind bars.
