Description
"Scanners on and focused on the aurora phenomenon, Skipper", Lunn said, turing a couple of dials on her console. Lacking a science officer, she was the closest to one aboard the Palo Alto, and, as Metlesits had to admit to himself, the best option they had. Lunn could be unfocused up to being mission-threatening, but when she found her footing, she was a capable officer in all regards.
"Thank you, Ensign", the Skipper said, standing up from his command seat to look around the bridge, "Everybody, just take a moment to take it all in. The majesty of it."
The bridge crew all took a couple of moments to turn toward the viewscreen and look at the firey thready of ionized particles dancing over the planet.
"I remember a story about a girl", Metlesits said absent-mindendly, caught up in the spectacle his ship was flying towards, "A girl who turned away from the world she was born in, looked toward the sun and walked into the Aurora."
"What did she find there?", of course, it was Kildare who asked it, and nobody was surprised by this.
"Another world", David said simply.
"Is that a Hungarian legend?", Nussbaum asked, for which he received a smile from his friend.
"No. It's a Human legend."

Absolutly Beautiful! Love the Daedalus class! What would a daedalus based polaris look like?

"That's all well and good! ..." came the voice over the intercom. "Now could somebody reel the tether line and me back inside?!"

I just looked at this and realized the obvious - the sketch for this ship design was printed in the paperback "The Making of Star Trek" in the mid-60s along with other sketches by Matt Jefferies - and was probably studied by the design team prepping for Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey - and was "borrowed" and turned into the bow of the Discovery. Jeez. Took me long enough to realize Kubrick pinched Jefferies' idea - and took it from that book!
Beautifully done. You are the master of lighting and shadows.Β

I love the daedalus class. It's one of my favorites.
"A girl who turned away from the world she was born in and walked into the Aurora." that reminds me on "His dark materials" where the Aurora Borealis is a portal to other universes.
