Digital illustration from my Fall 2016 semester of college. I'll go ahead and post an excerpt from the Tumblr post I made about this last year:

"I grew up being told to be proud of my interests no matter what anyone else thinks. And yeah, that’s some great life advice, but it also caused me a lot of mental and social trauma during grade school. I was very open about the things I liked, but that was quickly shut down by the harassment and social exile I experienced from my peers. It brought me to a very dark and lonely place that lasted for years, and even now, at 21 years old, I’m still dealing with the residual effects. So yeah, be proud of your interests and who you are, but express caution in doing so. People can be unbelievably cruel, and sometimes facing directly against adversity can be dangerous. Be careful, yo."
