Description
I could have spent a moment of my yesterday's birthday on something special, but instead I happily wasted it on a belated Valentine mood piece.
And today a few minutes were wasted on making it into something halfway suitable for uploading. And tomorrow will probably see a few more minutes wasted on fixing mistakes I have yet to find out.
Such a shame when something you like lies far outside your comfort zone despite appearing deceptively easy and simple. Oh, wait... that is actually a good thing.

EDIT: Couldn't stand those more obvious flaws so improved version is now in place. Well, at least until I manage to find more problems to it.

Thanks! It took some thought on the sketch phase, but it worked out in the end.
It will take some time for me to master drawing Gallade, though - without fluency in drawing/interpreting human anatomy, the results might be doomed to mediocrity.

With me what gets me is the midsection. While I'm definitely among the (few?) people who finds the saucer hips oddly endearing, when I try to think about the underlying structure and how they would work anatomically my brain draws a blank, haha.

In drawings I simply treat it as a hollow encasing of his structural hips that I draw right at the start. Given how he and his whole family is closer to undead and gaseous orbs, the possible interpretations of how it works are far more plentiful than in case of other poke-humanoids. 
Never had a problem with this waist disc myself - I remember discussing this difference in judgement with someone for whom it looked silly - and it seems that the problem lies more in terms of what people grew to expect of superheroes. If someone has a strong vision on how a hero should look, then Gallade's 'footbal-sized kidney stone' is one (large) building block too many.
Still, I think that it would be best if his hypothetical future Mega evolution got that baloon removed - I've seen quite a lot of potential Gallade fans for whom this quirk is the only obstacle that discourages them from trying him out - given how GF used Mega evolution to fix Garchomp's hideous design and also removed Lucario's infamous 'shorts', they seem to be quite well-aware as to what the fanbase wants and will most likely take a path that might maximize the interest.

That - and perhaps colours might be too bleak. Overall tone is only minimally apart between original and what is seen on the screen. Perhaps I'll take a look around illustrations and seek some proper tone.
