Description Here she is!  The final sketch of Quicksilver (for the record, I had not heard of the Marvel characters Quicksilver or Mercury.  I felt really ripped off when I heard about them after creating this character).  I fixed some of the mercury effects on her arms and legs, and added a few more details to her clothing.  Let me know what you think, and if you see anything that I can improve on when I draw people (especially women) in the future!

Hannah Gallagher, a.k.a. Quicksilver, is an amateur crime fighter.  She is a mutant who has the ability to transmute her body into mercury, allowing her to reshape her body and giving her limited invulnerability.  She also possesses superhuman strength, as well as superhuman healing abilities.  Her most formidable ability, though, is her ability to distort time around her, which makes her seem extremely fast and allows her to enhance her reflexes to incredible levels.

Hannah began to discover her abilities during her teenage years.  During high school, she began to develop super-human strength, healing, and extra-ordinary mental endurance, each of which she was careful to hide for fear of what could happen if "normal" people discovered them.  Her time-distorting powers began to manifest themselves when she tried out for her school's drill team, and it helped her to perform acrobatics that most people would find impossible.

Her final, most notable ability, her power to change herself into a being of living mercury, appeared when she was involved in a near-fatal car accident.  During high school, Hannah dated Rodney Rickenbacker (gi-mo.deviantart.com/art/Hot-R… .  On the way home from the Homecoming dance during their senior year, Rodney, who was driving, crashed and rolled his car.  Rodney ended up in critical condition, but Hannah unconsciously transformed to her mercury form and escaped unscathed.  Afraid of how her abilities would be viewed by other people, she carefully hid her powers and moved away from her home town in Upstate New York.

Hannah eventually moved to Manhattan to begin higher education, being extremely careful to conceal her powers and not betray her mutant nature.  Believing that Rodney had died in the car accident and afraid of becoming too close to anyone, she quietly avoided people and remained single, instead focusing on work and schooling.

Her solitary way of living would change dramatically, though, because a high-profile mercenary group staged a bank robbery near Columbus Circle, and a large police and SWAT standoff started.  The standoff could have gotten worse, except Night Angel, the Governator and Blitzkrieg leaped into action to save innocent lives and bring down the mercenary terrorists.  This inspired Hannah to begin using her powers to help bring criminals to justice and protect innocent people around her.

She took the name Quicksilver and began trying to prevent crimes, but her limited knowledge and experience led her to being wanted by NYPD for being a vigilante.  She eventually was able to meet up with the other heroes and begin a career as a super hero.

I think you did a great job on her hair! Would you like a little advice? I know it's rude to offer it unasked for

Ok! Just watch out for those eyes--if you're gonna take it any further, you're going to want to double check her left eye and her hands seem a tad small. I know, we want to draw women's hands petite and slender, but believe it or not, it actually looks better to accidentally draw someone's hands too big than too small.

Thanks for the advice.  Not enough people offer constructive comments on pictures.  Anything about her that looks really good?

well typical me to fixate on it, but her bust is really great! Good size, not freakish like the ones I draw I'm really envious of how you got that stretch effect down--I've always had a hard time with that.

Her chest took me forever to get right.  They look good, though, right?  Anything in particular that I should watch out for or make sure I do more of on other women I draw?  I'll ask you because you seem to be an expert on this.

yep, you did a good job! Like I said, the thing I noticed was the hands--don't worry about them looking masculine if you draw them too large, because there's a lot more you have to do to make a hand look masculine than just drawing it bigger. an excellent, excellent work I think you would benefit from is Drawing People: How to Portray the Clothed Figure by Barbara Bradley. Tremendous anatomy book.

I went to New York City.  Well, technically I was in Duchess and Sullivan Counties for about half the time, but I did a tour in Manhattan for a while.

Thanks for the feedback on that.  I'll definitely work on the hands, since I've always had a hard time with getting those right.  I guess with asking about other things to look out for when drawing women, do you have any advice on drawing breasts?  I had a difficult time with this picture, and you seem to have no problems talking about details like that.  Usually if someone has a complaint about the particulars of a character's anatomy they say something like "that leg is a little off," or "her chest doesn't look right."

ScopeCreepStudio In reply to TheMightyM0 [2014-07-30 17:41:37 +0000 UTC]

my advice for drawing breasts is a little vague, but it's my creed for drawing anything: If you're going to draw it cartoony or stylized, do it on purpose, not because you don't know how to draw it realistically. Like, I pretty much always draw boobs magically round and gravity defying, but I KNOW that's not how they act in real life--I'm choosing to draw that way because that's what I've decided is best for the picture.

Sounds good.  Do you think that Quicksilver's chest is cartoony here?  It definitely was in some of the earlier drawings of her, but I was trying to avoid that this time.

ScopeCreepStudio In reply to TheMightyM0 [2014-07-30 17:53:56 +0000 UTC]

Nope, wouldn't say cartoony, just unuasally sized

TheMightyM0 In reply to ScopeCreepStudio [2014-07-30 18:09:32 +0000 UTC]

Normally I wouldn't draw breasts that large but she's a tabletop character, and one of her attributes was a Physical Beauty rating of 30.  Average is about 12, so I figured that it would be a pretty good way to help her to stand out in a crowd.
