Description AN ENTIRE WEEK WITHOUT DRAWING CUMBERBATCH, I WAS DYING. HIS CHEEKBONES ARE LIKE OXYGEN TO ME. EEEK.

Few minutes after, she was feeling much better.

A REALLY quick sketch posted on tumblr and then modified a bit XP

Note: look, everybody here knows how marvellous in every way this man is, and how much we enjoy every movie/series he plays...so, please, SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THE ART ITSELF TOO (a simple "nice art" or "uh, I'd add more blue" it's just fine. This is devART after all, not facebook..) after you decide to add a comment ;A; It took me time and effort, even if maybe a little amount in this case!

Since you want commentary on the art:

I like the composition, the white paint splatters bring the piece together nicely, and the strands of hair on his forehead look odd to me.

And Sherlock is awesome. I know you didn't need to hear it, but I'm saying it anyway .

Thank you for reading the artist's comment and actually commenting!

The strands of hair on the forehead do look odd, you're right XD

Oh well, I couldn't agree more XP

Welcome~

I'm usually slightly hesitant to give actual feedback. A lot of people get offended by it. ^_^; Glad that you receive it gracefully.

If feedbacks are given in a nice way, they can help A LOT! Sadly lots of people just criticize, harshly, and artists get used to get even good feedbacks as criticism :/

Hi! Awww, thanks a lot, glad you like it \O/ The quote is from "Behind Blue Eyes", by The Who... a great song, and so Sherlock-like!

The song seems to fit John more so in my opinion, and not just the "behind blue eyes" part. But then listening to it again, I really can see how it'd fit Sherlock too. I can see John fitting the verses more, while Sherlock fits more to the chorus, and towards the end, they both comes to a close. I think it would've been better to include John, but this art is already amazing as is because in their own way, they can both be "criminals", especially Sherlock. So I'll shut up on that aspect~! I don't mind the yellow so much as the...sharpness of the color and picture. Seems to me like Sherlock's personality would appear as blurred despite him being so truthful, because he DOES seem to blur over the emotional aspects. I would've knocked the art out of focus, and then try to smear the color more into a focused haze, and keep that a bit more blurred than Sherlock himself. But hey, what do I know? I think it's bloody brilliant! Wouldn't change a thing...

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for drawing an art to this wonderful song. I heard it on the horror move, Gothika, and I cried the first time I heard it. Fits my story to a tee, and I guess that's why I...do kinda relate to Sherlock, especially in this art with this song. I wondered what version you listened to, as well. I prefer Limp Bizkit, because he seems to fit more with the "criminal's point of view", rather than The Who. Anyway, thanks again love for drawing this. I'm favoriting the living hell out of your gallery, and this one definitely goes in my top favs. Keep it up, darling. Sorry if this little comment annoyed ya. I often ramble. T_T I feel Sherlock's pain...

I wish I could draw in this style.
your art is great!!

Aw, thanks! I do agree with some of the comments, because it's true that blue represents Sherlocks very well...but YELLOW really expressed what I had in my mind ;u;

I love the way it's slashed with the yellow! It's like in the "Blind Banker" where he sprays the camera with the yellow spray paint. Was that what you were going for? If so, it's awesome. Of course, it's awesome whether you were going for that or not, but that was the first thing it reminded me of.

The white splatters and yellow streak add messiness, but in a good way.

This is just freaking awesome. The swipe of yellow is interesting, to have some color in it. However, personally, i would probably use something more softer like blue or maybe even red, a dark tone of it. And you drew the eyes and lips perfectly! Those are the features i love the most on people and DANG you did his beautifully!
Keep up the awesome drawing!!

The sketch is lovely, but given your choice of text (which is a great choice, by the way, once I deciphered it), I would either replace the yellow swath with a more vibrant blue, or just color in his eyes and leave everything else gray. But I suppose I'm kind of predictable that way...

JulietBeyondGoth [2011-06-14 18:21:00 +0000 UTC]

I love his face and the way you drew it, it's somehow angular and soft the same time, if that makes any sense. His eyes, his nose, his lips, damn, that's just... Amazing. I would have not used yellow in this, perhaps red or blue instead, but yellow does fit well with grey.

Don't you ever stop drawing Sherlock, please?

Cardboardram [2011-06-14 14:09:09 +0000 UTC]

I was going to say, "I totally know what you're talking about with the "WHAT ABOUT THE ART ITSELF" thing" but then I can't actually think of a specific instance...I just have the strong feeling that I've experienced that myself before. BUT I DIGRESS, let's see what I can...see. Yeah.

Ok but really, I want to say that one thing that I love about how you render John and Sherlock (and everyone really) is that you make your drawings actually LOOK like the actors. I mean, for me, I'm still trying to learn that. But you do it so flawlessly every time. Ahhhh, how I respect that. ;u; OH AND, I wanted to backtrack a little before I forgot, GUH DRAWING BC = OXYGEN, man now that I can understand, cept I still fail at drawing all the time so maybe not so much OXYGEN to me, but when I do and do it right it's like skyrocket mood lifter for me. ;u; And that for me personally there's ALWAYS an BURNING ITCH to do art (specifically sherlockart because I have no passion or drive for anything else now ffff) =u=

Annd now we're back to the art, well see the thing is, I don't want to get too nit-picky (but I do anyway, OTL) really I want you to know, this is wonderful the way it is without me saying anything, but if you want crit/nitpicking, I'll just point out that his shoulder is a littlee too close to the left corner and it would be nice if there was a little more breathing room there. And as I said, I can't mistake your drawing for anyone but Benny, but I do feeell like in your drawing his chin is a little squarier then it actually is? BUT THAT'S JUST MY FEELING, I CAN'T SAY IT'S JUSTIFIED. I'M NOT EVEN LOOKING AT A PHOTO TO MAKE SURE. I'M JUST SAYING. FFFF. =u=;;

The grey letters are a littlee bit hard to read, (actually really only the first row of words) but I was still able to make it out, it just took me longer then a second. Hahah. But it's interesting, I did wonder about what Sherlock's dreams are like. I don't know if it's ever mentioned in the canon, though strangely I have a vague sense that I've read or heard somewhere about Sherlock's dreams beeing rather vivid. I don't know. That might've been from the BBC radio drama or Granada or something, but my point being, it would be interesting to try to imagine what Sherlock's dreams are like. For fanart. Hahaha, oh me. xD; But yeah no, my point is just that, I like that you chose that "quote"(?) to put there. =u=

i like the way it is...but maybe yellow won't be my first option why not blue of violet?...something sutil or maybe not, after all the contrast is what gives a little of shadow play. I like the text because it goes with the sweet expression you gave him. Thanks for sharing.

I think it's delightful that you've used The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes" in reference to Holmes! Honestly, I'm never going to be able to listen to that song again without thinking of Sherlock! *Super bonus points* (No seriously, someone should edit a video for it on youtube!)

As for actual art critiquing, you've really depicted his face structure extremely well! The composition is well mapped and I like the colours too! On the other hand, I am a little intrigued as to why you didn't use more... blue. Perhaps it was intentional?

Oh. Shoot....my apologies. ><

Well first off. Sometimes I only look at the thumbnail of a picture and skip over it but I think the yellow bit is what got me to click on this one and I really like how it's not all yellow on his face there's still that little bit that's grey/black and white. Other than the color I think my favorite bit is his eyes - they're very expressive
