Description When I was applying to the company that I am currently employed for, which is named 3 Monkeys and Aardvark Studios, I took note of the odd name. I said to myself, "That has to have some sort of personal relevance to the creators of the company." So, when applying, as a way to both illustrate my drawing abilities and catch the attention of the members of the company, I did this piece.

I actually had to do a good deal of research on this piece. The monkeys used here are all native to Africa, though I doubt that they would ever walk in stride. The one doing the poking with the stick is a Dusky Leaf Monkey, the one lifting the aardvark's rear leg is an Olive Baboon, and the one riding on the aardvark's back is a Rhesus Macaque infant. I tried to keep the subjects as close to the actual ratios to one another, but frankly, I had nothing to compare against, so I was mostly flying blind.

In any case, the man that became my current boss was very impressed with the work I did, and after having an interview with him, he decided to hire me. I've been enjoying working with him ever since. Perhaps in the future, I will even be able to display some of the work I have done for the company.

Very impressive! It's great that you did so much research for this.
If I had a company, I would have hired you, too!

Many thanks!

One of those things they drilled into us at school: the paramount importance of research. We actually had among the highest credit hours of all the majors on campus on account of graphic designers needing a lot of information to do their jobs effectively.

This too is awesome. You should just draw photo realistic animals doing strange stuff, that they're capable of doing (no poker), like this, it's kind of a neat concept in itself.

Yeah, this was kinda a fun deviation to my normal mode of drawing. I especially want to do a better picture of the baby Rhesus Macaque. I'm not kidding, he was excited about whatever, and the expression was unforgettable.

I like how you got emotions into each animal very much.

Admittedly, the Rhesus Macaque was easy (the little monkey), because I found a picture where the tiny guy was hooting about some-such with these eyes of blazing excitement. To me, it almost looked like it was saying, "OH SNAP!" about something. I couldn't deny feeling some level of mutual excitement for whatever it was getting riled up about. Definitely my favorite one to draw, through it was too small to be captured with a decent level of accuracy of the original photograph.

In any case, thanks.
