Description
The Moruth are an insectoid race from Chaerioth V. They have 3 body segments, the head, the body and join stalk. Their "head" contains eyes and main thinking brain but no mouth. Their actual mouth is on the center of their body segment. The joiner stalk contains a large, thickened nerve cluster which acts as a junction station for the main brain signals. Their flexible fingers act as antenna for both tasting and smelling. Their bodiesβ outer covering is actually their hardened vestigial wings, which they use along with their syrinx like organs to mimic a large number of sounds, similar to a mockingbird.Unlike most species which are duel or single sexed, the Moruth have a slightly different system. The most common form, the Alpha Moruth, comes in two varieties. C-type and S-type. To reproduce, a C-type and an S-type will come together and grip each other tightly. The S-type will then produce a silky cocoon covering like a silkworm, covering the two, a process that takes several hours. Both types can asexually create nonviable eggs, which can be eaten by many species but are generally used to feed their own young.
Over the course of several weeks a change will occur, non-breeding alpha Moruth will watch and tend to the cocoon. After about 3-4 weeks have passed, a Beta type Moruth will emerge, made by the merging of the S and C type alpha Moruth. These are much larger then alpha Moruth, having more limbs and are heavier. Apon emerging, the new beta has the intelligence of about a 4-year-old and may still has some fragmentary memories from the previous two Moruth that made it. Beta types grow in intelligence much faster than an Alpha type, and tend to be much smarter then Alpha types as well.
Like the alpha type, beta types come in S and C variations. Whether a beta is a S or C type is randomly determined by the C-types genetics. Beta types also differ from Alpha types in that they can asexually produce offspring. BetaC-types always produce AlphaS-types, while BetaS-types always produce AlphaC-types. Under the right conditions when young, a C-type can transform into an S type and vice versa. This usually happens when the S to C type ratio falls too far from 50%.
Beta types can also merge and, in a much longer cocoon stage, create Gamma types. Gammas differ from betas in almost the same way betas differ from alphas, in that they are larger and smarter. Unlike betas however, gammas produce betas. Gammas are quite rare to be found naturally. It is theorized that Moruth merging capabilities can go on nearly infinitely, though only gammas have been found naturally.
The Moruth were originally a feudal society, with higher up merged calling the shots on lower kinds. This all changed when they were discovered by Mu'am merchants. The entire system was bought and traded to a large vehicle manufacturing company, who promptly uplifted and employed the entire race to sell spaceships throughout the galaxy in essentially indentured servitude.
When the main Mu'am CIC (company in charge) joined the federation, the rights for the various species in their employment expanded, the Moruth one of them. Rapidly moving up in the Muβam corporate world, the Moruth ended up with almost 50% of company shares, allowing them to become a major force in Mu'am politics. Nowadays many Mu'am businesses can be found with Moruth at their heads as CEOs or as rival companies, forging competition and keeping the Mu'am business empire from regaining too much power.
TLDR: Crystal gems but insect car salesmen
