Description
A "recipe" for realistic miniature bread that almost feels like baking real bread: all you need is water, baking powder and.. well, polymer clay instead of flour! This was adapted from this tecnique (wich is probably my all-time favourite!!).
However, this method uses just polymer clay, instead of Liquid polymer clay (which is quite pricey!).
Also, you won't need any mold!
All you have to do is to knead the baking soda into the polymer clay and shape it as you want before baking. So much fun!
Ps. After a few tests, I found that while you can color the bread with chalks before baking, the colour does wear off a little, so I suggest to paint your miniatures with acrylic paints instead

that looks more realistic than when using the liquid clay method Much more denser and more like real bread

The liquid clay method is a little bit trickier (is that even a word? ), although you can achieve the same texture with both techniques. It just takes a little more effort

Love love love how it looks! I tried the baking soda trick, but it did not work for me...

Oh it's not just you, really!
It is a little tricky.. I guess it's because given the very small quantities, it is pretty hard to guess the right clay/baking soda/water balance.. it takes some time to master it, and even then sometimes it just doesn't work
However, the result is just so nice that it's worth the struggle

One of my attempt was "okay" I had a syringe and added air bubbles in the preparation. I just added too much but the look was nice, just not perfect and then I did not have any more syringe so I did not try again, lol

Whoooa, wait wait wait! This is very interesting. A syringe? Can you explain it a little further? You got me really curious

Okay, lol.
I used a syringe with a teeny tiny needle, I had those because when I used to have very violent migraines I tried a medication I needed to inject myself in the thigh (not fun but I felt I needed to explain why I had such syringe at home, lol)
I made the "dough" with a mix of TLS and baking soda, put it in the "pan" I made (but I can't seem to remember how I made it back then, because it was still a few years ago). Took the syringe, pulled a tiny bit of water into it and filled the rest of the syringe with air. I "injected" the dough with tiny amounts of what was in the syringe in different areas.
It worked, but the "bread" ended up way too fragile. I think I just added too much air and/or water into it with the syringe.
You can see how it looked if you click here: kayanah.deviantart.com/art/Rea…
I never tried again after that, it takes too much tls and it is hard for me to find it here.

Oh it actually came out lovely!! What an interesting way to do this. Maybe the bread ended up too fragile because you didn't use 'regular' clay, but just liquid clay?
Btw I'm definitely going to try the syringe trick some day, thank you sweetie!

Yeah maybe it was because I did not use actual clay. Will try again someday.
You're welcome; hope you will share the result with me when you do.
