Thanks to ~mjranum-stock and ~night-fate-stock for providing wonderful photos.**Fixed the humming sound. So it should be coming in crystal clear now.
Commands for this tutorial that can be used in Photoshop are
-Copy Ctrl=C
-Paste Ctrl=V
-New Ctrl=N

Very effective, to the point and comprehensive tutorial.
I often create the shadows in just bout the same manner, although I always keep the shadow closer to the object/figure much darker than the part that is furthest away from the object of which I go over with a soft eraser.

Thanks. And yeah that is a good tip. I think a good way to figure out shadows and how they are cast, is just walk outside on a sunny day. Stand in different directions. Lay down, bend over, lean back. And study how the shadow is cast from the direction of the sun. And at which angle it is being cast. I think that's what makes using shadows so much fun because you can create something that didn't otherwise exist.

Definitely. I study them all the time. One of the most difficult ones that I've done is a wine glass. Often they cast one main shadow, but also one or two faint ones in other directions. And then there's the tricky part of the light going through the glass and casting light elements where the shadows are.
