the second big painting of the year is always a retracing of old ground. in this case, I wanted to revisit my original concept of a witch pirate. but my taste has been radically altered by my recent experience with richmond raves, underground DJs and performance art culture. I am now thinking of movement and music while I paint, and trying to fuse the influences around me. I listened to some TNGHT. I drank a lot of coffee. I know people with hair this big.the top half of this painting descended into abstract and I plunked all the reality at the bottom..not sure what that says about me.

Beautiful colours... I love the character concept too, and your style is simply gorgeous. The ethereal effect of having the top of the painting abstract works really well - it stretches the perspective, so you feel like you're looking up into eternal sky. I may have to try the coffee-and-music technique myself!

This looks amazing! But the character doesn't really come off as a witch, or a pirate at all. She's too... Innocent looking. She's pretty thin and has no scars, flaws or anything unique or interesting about her. The painting itself is completely beautiful, lovely colors and an interesting scene, but the title just doesn't fit.
