Description
Something I drew out cause I just had to. I'm going to ink and colorize it. Some features get corrected or changed while I'm going over it a million times. It is sort of Matrix inspired I could say. Dragon Sentinal! Or Sentinal Dragon. Eh - my proper English skills in forming a title have been... lacking it seems. Those creepy Sentinal robots in Matrix are oddly ingenious and wicked at the same time. Matrix robot life abolished the humaniod form, taking on a more insectoid... crustacean form. Which suits mechinoid creatures much better anyway. This will look much better once completed as a piece of digital art. This sketch is Mech. Pencil and paper, in my sketchbook.
The more I think it over, the more I start to realize why my art has taken a very digital turn. I used to use markers and paints - acrylic mostly. I wanted to be like those orginal Dungeons & Dragons artists. Like Kieth Parkinson and Larry Elmore. Google them if you want to know more.... But one compelling argument was paints are messy and I don't have anything like a studio. The computer IS my studio. Computer screens have gotten better and LCD screens are becoming standard. Considering many ppl now have laptops for most of their computing needs now-a-days. And really the only way I can present this to you all is thru the internet and via computer screen. Although I always try to make my artwork print complaint - with printing in mind.
I like the computer. I embrace the technical way of life. This is a new medium that is virtualy the new way art is viewed these days. Less mess and less fuss. I don't have to paint with sloppy paints. And it's hella cheaper than buying new Prismacolor markers every other day. I burn thru markers very fast. I do still use pen and ink, pencil and paper on everything I present. The computer is a tool - like the pencil or the brush. So I prefer to make my final art in the digital space because it makes it look better. And Photoshop can make effects I cannot easily do on paper. Often times Photoshop can make really spiffy new effects without all the fuss and mess.
But my root ideas always start out on paper.
I like cel painting. I always wanted to be like those animators back in the day and paint the cels and whatever. And most cel painting style is done with very solid colors - and tones of colors. It doesn't use gradients or gradient fills because that would be next to impossible to use in animation. Digital toons now can use gradients. But traditional cel painting is always in that 3 toned layer style. I love those Animes with really detailed cel work.
I like Digital cause I can do things I can't because I - 1. Don't have the money for tons of stuff, and 2. It is the new way ppl now view media these days.
So .... that is my ramblings about my work. Yes - this will be colored and avalible as a print soon. Still working on comic pages. But I can't draw JUST Transformers and fan art all the time now can I?
