This place is dead. Now, I do wonder where Rattman might be hiding...that is, if he's still alive.So, it's been ages since I made something related to Portal. Guess it was about that time.

Curiously enough,does Aperture ever supported water supplies?
If water was the source of energy or at least source for the test subjects,yet there is hazardous water to die for.
In such scenario and scenes it is always good to see Portal going deep inside its shadows and hiding secrets.

In Portal 1, and I Think 2 as well, we have seen, especially in Rattman's dens, empty water bottles. And, quite frankly, as a scientific institute Aperture would at least have water supplies for the scientists. The intoxicated water in the test chambers are most likely just there as some sort of obstacle.

Cave Johnson and Caroline got weak by that time when Aperture took over the labs.
And well the hydration and food supplies were limited I suppose.
And Ratman survived long enough but went slowly crazy and he did had water bottles all over next to his dens.

If you at least know about Portal 2 and it's story, you'll know that after 9999999 whatever-time-span-it-is, Aperture's been almost completely ran down after GLaDOS' deactivation.
