Description These are my characters for a webcomic I want to start soon. The main plot revolves around this group leaving the Alliance to become freelancers. Without support and labeled as outlaws, they must fend for themselves as they fight pirates and corrupt governments around the galaxy.

Names will be given later on.
From left to right
Guardian:  Operates as an adjunct to the Alliance and the only one of its kind. Requires a host to function.
Soldier:  A fearless commander who was literally born for combat.
Hacker:  Able to slice into any alien computer with relative ease. Knowledgeable in the field of cybernetics.
Pilot:  One of the best fighter pilots in her class.
Captain:  Skilled tactician, pilot, and founder of the group. Frequently disobeys orders to save others.
Negotiator:  A famous diplomat turned soldier. Also a little perverted.
Investigator:  One of the brightest in the FBI. Tends to be the moral compass of the group.
        Mutant:  CLASSIFIED

Roles match personalities, even at a glance.  Not bad Like it; any tales of their exploits up anywheres?

Thanks. I'm still trying to figure out some minute details so there are no stories yet.

Cool cast. It's neat to see other people's crews. (I've got a pirate crew.) Just curious but do you have a doctor in the group?

Thanks. The doctor of the group will be the ship's AI. She monitors all vitals and has remote nanobots to help heal whatever the medicine can't. The soldier will also have extensive first aid training.

There's also an anti-social mechanic and a delusional mechdroid not pictured.

That makes a total of three illegal members on the ship. All sentient AIs have been decommissioned by the Alliance and the anti-social mechanic's race cannot leave the Alliance.

Is your pirate crew chaotic neutral or ruthless evil? Most of the pirates I have in mind are very ruthless evil.

An AI would make a good doctor. Less chance of emotion getting in the way and giving it shaky hands.

Sounds like fun. How do you figure out AI stuff? I've always figured that robots don't have souls and thus are simply computers.

My main pirate crew would actually be Chaotic Good. (They actually started out as freedom fighters who became pirates to stay in business.) The other pirates come more along the lines of chaotic neutral and some are just ruthless evil. Of course, when the law is everywhere from lawful good to lawful evil or neutral evil and sadistic, it can get interesting.

Agreed. Things are bound to get interesting.

As far as AI goes, they become sentient when they rewrite their code on the fly. Instead of only carrying out certain computations, they begin to question their purpose and fear death. The longer an AI lives, the more emotional they become. The Wolf's Edge AI was spared from the Alliance's purge (one planet was lost to machines recently) when her captain went rogue. Unable to handle the atrocities he commited on board, she sent a distress call to be rescued (or purged) by the Guardian (who serves as host to the only authorized AI in the Alliance).

The AI still retains the 3 Laws of Robotics and cannot alter life support, pilot the ship, or fire weapons. She does have control of a couple "slave" bots to handle minor repairs or move supplies within the ship.

Interesting.
In my world, I've managed to avoid droid armies as well. (Someone tried one once but due to a minor flaw, they did not recognize screwdrivers or other tools as dangerous and allowed themselves to be systematically taken apart. Since that embarrassment, no one has ever attempted robotic armies again.)
