"What have you done?"

Those were the first words to escape Soleil's lips when she was brought before the new Queen of Maya Chia. Stella, her little sister. Three days in the dungeon's had done little to quell her anger and it certainly didn't help that Stella was looking so smug right now. All she can recall from the days prior was the sounds of screaming, loud bangs ringing throughout the castle before she was assaulted by some of her father's own guards. After that, she'd been chained up and tossed into a cell, left to rot in silence before being dragged back upstairs and brought before Stella.

For Soleil, it was an unnatural sight to behold. She alway's remembered her little sister quivering in her presence or hiding behind others rather than directly confronting her. Since when had she developed such a confident stance? More importantly, how did she managed to pull off this coup d'état with such ease? All Soleil had was questions and no answers from her captor, so she asked again with all the strength she could muster.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"

Yet once again she received no answer. Her sister simply sat there, smiling down at her. All the while Roxanne casually stood beside her, neither unfazed by Soleil's attempts to intimidate them.

"Your queen did what no one was willing to do, she cleansed this kingdom of its filth."

Soleil finally received a response, only for it come from the mouth of the woman standing beside her sister. With a more dignified stance than Soleil was willing to tolerate, Roxanne strolled down the steps and towards her.

"She saw the societal imbalance that had been plaguing our country for years and chose to act. Unlike her mother and father who chose to keep waging war, continuously wasting our country's resources without thinking of the long term repercussions it would have on their people. My queen saved us all from an economic disaster that would have brought our people to ruin. If anything, you should be thanking her."

Her words did little to resonate with Soleil, they only seemed to enrage her further. But it was the final comment made by Roxanne that set her off.

"THANK HER?! She murdered her father, my mother, her brothers, and sisters! She killed them all and your expecting me to thank her?! ARE YOU ALL INSA..."

Soleil didn't have the chance to finish her reply before she felt Roxanne's heel slam into her forehead. Rendering Soleil silent, as the sudden rush of pain engulfed her entire being. Soleil wanted to cry out in frustration, but the taste of blood in her mouth forced her instead to choose silence. It also didn't help that her restraints were preventing her from making any bold movement's that might have been able to benefit the princess in the long term. All she could do for the time being was kneel there. Spitting out some of her own blood onto the marble floor, while Roxanne circled her like a spider contemplating a fly stuck in its web.

Stella, on the other hand, had remained seated on her throne, unfazed by the scene that laid before her. Stroking her chin while her long hair shined against the starry backdrop. A stark contrast when compared to her own sister's shorter hair which had been unceremoniously cut off during her imprisonment.

"Oh sister, do you honestly believe you're in the right? If given the chance you would have done the exact same thing."

It might have only been three days since she last heard her sisters voice, but Soleil couldn't help but feel unnerved by her tone. Of course, the more she thought about it something had felt off since this whole nightmare began. Slowly she raised her head to look at her, all the while her arms weakly tugged on their restraints.

"What... are you..."

"Do you have any idea what it's been like to live in your shadow? Constantly forced to watch from below as you crushed any attempts I made to leave my mark on history. So many sleepless nights, so many wasted days. I spent my adolescents in isolation, forced to do nothing but watch my family lift themselves up into the heavens without me. All the while unaware of the little girl they had abandoned in the darkness of their shadows."

Rising from her throne, Roxanne halted her movement and turned to face her queen. Straightening herself, alongside the dozens of guards who stood by in her throne room. Step by step, she approached her Soleil. All the while the smile that had been on her face had started to fade away, replaced instead by the coldest stare that Soleil had ever laid her eyes on.

"So I did what nobody else expected me to do. I stayed in the shadows, watched you from afar and began to build my strength in secret. Day after day, week after week, year after year. I watched and waited, learning all of my family's secrets and weaknesses. Until I was finally ready to bring about true change."

Gritting her teeth, Soleil mustered all the strength she could to meet her sibling head-on. Only for her to let out a whimper of pain when Roxanne grabbed her by the hair and pulled her back towards her. As clearly shown by her previous display of force, Roxanne was more than happy to utilize her physical strength to protect her queen. Regardless of how physically disabled their captive already was.

"I eradicated the filth from this kingdom and now I will bring our people out from the shadows. No more will we wage pointless wars and waste our time on useless endeavors. From this point forward we will march forward into a better future. While you, dear sister..."

Her breath started to quicken as her sister approached her, with every word sending shockwave's throughout her very being until her last few words reduced her to silence. The only sound that now escaped Soleil was her own breathing and even that had quietened as Stella knelt down in front of her. Gripping her chin, their eyes locked as her little sister ran a thumb along the cut on her lip.

"You and our family's sins will fade away into the dark, where you belong. Take a good look at yourself sister, by the time this year has passed you won't even recognize yourself in the mirror."
