Description
**UPDATE: In my haste to show off I sort of just slapped together the original image. I thought Id put a little more effort in to displaying it. Hope this brings it together a bit more. Here's something I'm extra proud to present. I had a little time off a few weeks ago so I was actually able to sit down and draw a little for myself....a rare treat. I'm rusty as all hell but had a lot of fun trying to shake a little of that off.
What you see here are 6 separate drawings that I threw together in to this haphazard montage. They weren't drawn with the intent of having them in the same image but I wanted to see how they played off of one another just for fun.
By far, the coolest aspect of these pieces is that my dear friend, Sean Galloway, a.k.a CHEEKS
did the colors!!!! I am Sean's biggest fan and his work obviously has a big influence on my own. To have him help me with these was beyond awesome. As far as I'm concerned, everything that's cool here is as a result of what he did. He brought them to life.
I'm currently trying to put together a nice art book in which these will be featured separately along with many others. Ill keep you posted on when that will be. I really hope you guys dig!

Hey! I'm Sean's biggest fan!
That aside - this really came together awesome! Love what he did with Hellboy colors!
I suggest making this into a poster and selling it at conventions!

No, Im a way bigger fan than you, Dan. I mean...Im like 6'4 220lbs.
Thanks! Yeah, Im serious when I say that I give most of the credit here to Sean. He works magic and in such a simple fashion. I must steal his tricks!
Im going to hold off on prints and the like until I get my art book out. I almost didnt post these publicly but just could resist after I saw what Cheeks did with them.

Wow, what a list. Hellboy, Captain America, Batman, Spiderman, Iron Man and even Gatchaman.
About Gatchaman, I've always preferred Tatsunoko studio's style of animation over other anime styles, it had an American comic book hero feel with Japanese comic features.

cool, i'll have to keep an eye out for it.
it was cool see you do that man, i was surprised to see your style (it was dope). i always expect inkers to draw like the guys they ink lol. i know it sounds lame, but i remember seeing some scott williams art and thinking it looked a lot like jim lee. since then i kinda just assume, but then you know what they say about that lol.

TimTownsend In reply to MARR-PHEOS [2009-01-17 18:28:56 +0000 UTC]
Finding a style is one of the hardest things for most inkers to do when they draw. Youre right, we do have a tendancy to draw like whoever we're used to working with. Its hard not to pick up characteristics of a penciler you work closely with and, lets not forget, a lot of what gets attributed to a pencilers style is actually coming from his inker. Inkers dont usually get credit for that and sometimes get blamed for aping styles when youre really just seeing what theyre putting in to the pencils when they ink. Hope that makes sense.
As for me, Im all over the place. I could draw three days in a row and none of the drawings will look like the same style...to me at least. I finally found some comfort and focus in this style some years back and it seems to have stuck. Its a really good feeling for me to have a solid vision and idea of what I want my work to look like.

it makes perfect sense.
it's funny you mention about being all over the place. i've drawn stuff and had people mention that it's a different style from what i normally do. it's something that i don't even notice (even after they bring it up lol).

What blows my mind is when people tell me they know its my stuff a mile away regardless of the style I use. I dont get that at all. Same with my inks. I wish I could see what others do.
