I second ShadowSweeper - there's a lot of luck and "oh damn happy accident" involved.
the silhouettes of the land and palm trees makes for a nice composition - all the details are in the sky and water, where the color is.

I like to think I'm interested in all sorts of art, but yes, photography's one of those secret crafts I don't think I'll ever develop a genuine knack for. I have good shots, like these, but I look at some of the photographers on DA and I'm blown away! Mah... but yes, sometimes, you just have to be in the right place at the right time - for instance, in Long Beach at sunset. xD

I see. I sorta agree with you. It usually depends on what kind of photography you're going for. A lot of times you can make your own moments and capture them with great tools of the trade. Then you really know what you're doing.
