I cant believe you just started today. that's amazing. if I can help it I don't like editing unless its to edit out a date stamp or something really noticeable. thanks for the advice. if you have any more advice down the line it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Sure. I don't have much formal advice to give, as I coincidentally just started my first ever photography class today, but I would recommend that you have a clear focal point in mind and that you make sure your camera is focused at the same point. Also, don't be afraid to move around and experiment with different perspectives.
For editing, I recommend Darktable. www.darktable.org/
