I know this is a few years old. Has your method for painting skin changed at all? I'm brand new to digital art; I started on my tablet today. This has been incredibly helpful!

Congrats it's a great thing to start and thank you too! Sorry I've taken so long to reply. Yes my process has changed. I use only one layer now, and paint on top of drawing, just as one might if they were using oils or acrylics. I also pick colours based more on their temperature not just the value.
If you want you can see a slightly more up to date process in the video I've linked below; I'm still using multiple layers, but the use of reference and how I'm picking colours is more advanced, and you'll notice I change the colour of the lineart and then paint on top of it, to blend it into the image.
