Description
Another vaguely-meta Playboy-esque cartoon. The idea is they're at the opera, and the guy's like "Yes yes, the performance is quite good, but the story! A woman, marrying simply for money? Preposterous!" and the old guy's just chewing his gums going "quite right, quite right"hahaha anyway, the point is, I couldn't get the wording right and fit the punchline in the end of the sentence. If you have a suggestion please comment, and if there's a really good one I'll put it under the cartoon where it's supposed to go!
I've been trying to get more local color into my illustrations, it's a real struggle for me. Photoshop.

You're kind of hand-tied by the complexity of the joke with this one. Conveying the two ideas simply isn't going to come off as smoothly as if the picture had been framed behind the audience looking out over at the opera itself. The best I can think of would be:
"A woman marrying simply for money? When did opera become so frivolously fictitious?"
All that being said, it's a lovely illustration.

LOL well, I'm glad you liked the suggestion.
Gags are really tough. It's not easy trying to get an entire story into a single sentence or two. The only cartooning suggestion I can really give is to try and cram as much info as possible into the illustration so you have to explain less. Not that that's any huge nugget of wisdom that you couldn't figure out yourself, but it's all I've got, lol.
I look forward to seeing more of these! They're coming out really great.

My best solution was to have the opera poster behind them, so the audience would already know what they were watching, but it would have to be REALLY obvious and I don't know of any classic operas called "gold-digger" haha
